David Choe Seeking Artists For Next Igloo Hong Project

After an enlightening trip to Cambodia for the first David Choe (featured) funded Igloo Hong Project with Aryz, Esao Andrews, James Jean, and El Mac, it sounds the he’s looking for more artists for the next trip. Currently at the 533 West 19th Street location of David Zwirner in New York, collaborative works collectively entitled Forgetting the Hand by Marcel Dzama and Raymond Pettibon are on display. This is the first time the two locally-based artists have worked together and their modified exquisite corpse technique of swapping a series of drawings to work on where part of what the other person did is concealed leads to some interesting results. Releases: Futura x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II collection

Starting next month, the Futura Chuck Taylor All Star II collection from Converse will be releasing at specialty retailers, Converse stores and online at Converse.com. This project with the NY graffiti legend will be the first artist collaboration with the redesigned Chuck Taylor All Star from the American shoe company. As you can see, the Brooklyn-based artist’s signature aesthetic can be seen featured on the sneaker (hi-top and the ox), apparel and accessories collection. Via Highsnobiety. Discuss Futura here.

Gris1, a member of the infamous DMV crew from France, recently opened his Mixité Sociale solo at Galerie Artistik Rezo in Paris on the 13th of January. The show includes an elaborate installation created in the gallery space, along with several large canvases, ink drawings on paper, and limited edition lithographs. On January 14th, Galerie Le Feuvre in Paris opened the 3rd edition of the annual Paper Party group show. Their first exhibition of the year features the same concept they started a few years ago, showing five artists represented by the gallery – Mist, Paul Insect, Ella & Pitr, Pixel Pancho and Daniel Muñoz – San. Designed on Surface is a project Jasper Wong worked on recently with Microsoft, spanning 17 cities in 12 countries. Basel Week Miami ’15 / Streets: Nychos

Another artist that left their mark on the streets during Basel Week Miami last year was anatomical enthusiast Nychos. The Austrian artist celebrated his birthday during the week of art festivities by leaving this burner behind in Wynwood Cafe entitled Strike Eagle, finishing despite being stopped by the police for a few days. Art Focus: DU Kun

This week’s Art Focus is on artist DU Kun and his surreal portraits of Chinese rock stars rendered as temples built into the sides of mountains and cliffs. The faces of each subject is assembled with a mystic combination of elements such as air, earth, and water leading to a god-like temple structures overlooking their own fiefdoms and worshippers (not unlike how recording artists have rabid fan communities).
