Streets: RISK – Rock On The Range Festival

Earlier this month, RISK head out to Columbus, Ohio for the Rock On The Range festival, a project he collaborated on with Danny Wimmer Presents. With the goal to create the world’s largest interactive mural, he has so far attended two events (out of a planned ten) and has had the participation of over 15,000 people (with a goal of 100,000 people & a 10,000 sq. foot mural). On May 28th, V1 gallery in Copenhagen, or V1 contemporary art center as the artists renamed it for the occasion, hosted a preview of FUD, a two men show featuring Barry McGee & Todd James. Currently at Legion in San Francisco, Evah Fan has a series of works on display entitled A Waffle Lot. Curated by Alice Wu, the solo from the Oakland-based artist features gouache paintings on wood panels and paper, new prints, zines, and multiples. Fan’s human or animal subjects are often small when compared to the size of her pieces, which allows them room to wander freely in their environment, often times without standard boundaries. Currently at Chalk Horse in Sydney, Mark Whalen (featured) has a new body of work entitled Improper Fraction on display. The new ceramic works included in the exhibition sees the artist otherwise known as Kill Pixie continue explore the “universal perfection of mathematics and geometries” which you can see in the structure seen in his composition. Tomorrow, May 29th, at 8 AM PDT, Porterhouse will be releasing a new print from Mark Ryden entitled Apis Ectoplasm. The print was made in collaboration with the Beyond Brookledge event and comes in an edition size of 100 (only 30 are available tomorrow). Aaron Li-Hill (interviewed) recently completed his piece for the Savage Habbit Murals Project in New Jersey, rendered with his signature sense of motion and kinetic energy. Choosing imagery the referenced the history of Secaucus, the New York-based artist was able to pay homage to revolutionary war patriots while also surrounding them with a flock of Snow Geese, often seen in the area on their yearly migration. Seen above is Snakehold, a new painting from the upcoming exhibition, is a good example of the Seattle-based artist’s penchant for unique color palettes and surreal imagery.
