James Marshall, or better known as Dalek (interviewed) by some of his fans, recently finished a series of murals at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Openings: Todd “REAS” James – “Free To be You & Me” @ V1 Gallery (Part II)

Earlier this week, we shared some photos of the paintings from the current Todd James (aka REAS) exhibition, Free To be You & Me, at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen. Along with these works, the NY-based artist also created an installation of what he imagines to be the Vandal’s Bedroom , chock full of drawings and other ephemera that very well could represent James’ bedroom at one point in time. Street art fans who were lucky enough to have visited the historic Art In The Streets exhibition at the MOCA in Los Angeles may recognized […]

Openings: Todd “REAS” James – “Free To be You & Me” @ V1 Gallery (Part I)

Last week, the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen opened up Free To be You & Me, a new solo from the Todd James. In addition to these colorful pieces, James also created an installation reminiscent of what he did for the Art In The Streets exhibition at the MOCA in Los Angeles – Vandal’s Bedroom (more on this […]

James Marshall (aka Dalek) @ Birmingham Visual Arts Gallery (UAB)

After ten straight days of painting, albeit with the help of some university art students, Dalek (interviewed) has completed a massive four panel, site-specific installation within the Birmingham Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Alabama. With minimalism more reminiscent of his Psych Optic Black Light Fuzz (Part 1 & Part 2) exhibitions over the winter than some of his more traditional work, the street artist turn gallery veteran utilized simple geometric forms and subtle shades of blue to strong effect. On display through August […]

Focus: Street Market – Barry McGee, Steve Powers, Todd James – “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

As part of the MoCA’s Art in the Streets exhibition (covered), Todd James (aka REAS), Barry McGee (aka Ray Fong, Lydia Fong, Robert Pimple, Twist) and Steve Powers (aka ESPO) reunited to re-envision their legendary 2000 Street Market installation at Deitch Projects, which itself was a recreation of the trio’s Indelible Market at the Philadelphia ICA earlier that year. Although the installation is always different, the idea remains the same: an urban environment—complete with stores, streets and all—that reflects the artists’ idea of a hyper-real […]
