On April 21st (10 AM Japan Time), James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a stunning new print through Adachi Hanga with proceeds going towards the institute’s mission of preserving of the traditional art of Japanese woodcut printing techniques by training young artisans and holding workshops. James Jean (interviewed) has always had a thing for jewelry (see OVM line) and high fashion (i.e. 3.1 Phillip Lim & Prada) To that end, the Los Angeles-based artist has collaborated on a new collection with Joyería Suárez (you may remember D*Face’s line with the Spanish brand back last year) featuring designs inspired by his artwork and palette. Opening last week, Throw-ups at NANZUKA in Tokyo marks James Jarvis’ (interviewed) first solo showing in Japan in the last four years. The Tank Pool Float, available through Case Studyo, comes in an edition of 200 and costs €302.50 (including VAT). Showing through last weekend, Ceci n’est pas un dessin, c’est une situation at Galerie Julien Cadet in Paris featured the instantly recognizable work of James Jarvis (interviewed). For an artist where drawing plays such a big role in his practice, the exhibition presented a further evolution of his work where his drawings were featured as the object – in flat sculptural form. Last week, the Lotte Museum in Seoul unveiled an expansive retrospective entitled Eternal Journey featuring the art of James Jean (interviewed). The exhibition features over 500 works from the American artist including pieces from his time as a comic book artist, sketchbooks, videos, digital art, and sculptures like a new eight foot tall stained glass obelisk.
