Starting on October 30th, Yves Laroche in Montreal will be hosting a massive group exhibition entitled Égrégore. The term refers to a kind of group mind which is created when people consciously come together for a common purpose and was used in relation to the Montreal Surrealists, best known as Les Automatistes in the 40s. Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) run in New York City included not only outdoor works (here & here), but also culminated in a riveting exhibition in SOHO. Entitled Eat and Delete, this show continued the previous themes from the Irish artist’s 2012 solo Dead Meat (covered). Openings: Wayne White – “Invisible Ruler” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

On September 11th, AM attended the solo from Los Angeles-based artist Wayne White at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. Entitled Invisible Ruler, the new body of work includes his signature word paintings showing alongside a series on paper he created during a residency at the Rauschenberg Foundation. Completing the exhibition was a group of 15 foot kinetic sculptures, hand constructed from cardboard, highlighting his talents from a time back when he worked on production design for Pee-wee’s Playhouse from which he has won three Emmy Awards. Openings: Usugrow – “Inkflow” @ Fifty24SF

Over the weekend, Fifty24SF hosted the opening for Usugrow’s new solo up in the Bay Area. Featuring his calligraphy on the walls as well in the pieces for sale, Inkflow marks his return to the San Francisco art scene after showing there in 2007 and participating in a group show with his Shinganist crew back in 2009 (covered). Following his group shows in the US and recent installation at the Toulouse Museum in France, we visited the cabinet of curiosities of lowbrow artist 100taur in Toulouse ahead of his upcoming solo show ‘Monsters in my closet’ at the Artoyz gallery in Paris. The French artist’s work is multidisciplinary and his creativity expands from graffiti, paintings, drawings, engraving to sculpture, installations and taxidermy. Even though Baby Tattooville founder Bob Self explained that his vision for the gift bags is that they are “souvenirs of a remarkable weekend,” any visitors would say they are much more than that. Streets: Shepard Fairey (Toronto)

After a recent set of murals realized in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, New York, Berlin, and Johannesburg, the tour concluded in Toronto for Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew. Some of the main pieces were created at the The Gladstone Hotel & Tattoo if you are local and want to hunt these down. Last week, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) opened a solo at the Hellion Gallery in Portland entitled Rainy Day with a Chance of Sun. After seeing some studio shots of some of the small originals and sculptural pieces he was working on, it was nice to finally visualize how the LA-based artist assembled and clustered them together.
