Last night, one of the hottest spots in Culver City was the opening of D*Face’s (featured) show Going Nowhere Fast at the Corey Helford Gallery. The next-level Lichtenstein inspired pieces combined with the sweet highly visible mural (covered) as well as his street intervention on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (covered) brought out his fans (new and old) in droves and led to brisk sales. Saturday night, Martha Cooper (interviewed) launched a special group exhibition at LA’s Carmichael Gallery. If the upcoming Art In The Streets Exhibition at the MOCA is this year’s Superbowl for street & urban art, then consider this show the preceding playoffs. Charity: Benefit Art Auction @ TT-Underground

Last Saturday, TT-Underground Gallery in New York City hosted the opening of the “Benefit Art Auction” to display works of art to be put on on eBay (here), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross and GlobalGiving to aid those effected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. It looks like last month’s opening of Adam Wallacavage’s (interviewed) show at Corey Helford Gallery attracted many of the city’s artistic community. Obviously enamored by his chandeliers, lamps, and other adventurous lighting options, the audience packed into the Culver City show space to take in his and Henry Lewis‘ new body of work. Steal From Work (the guys that put on the 12 Days of Christmas and Not a Penny More group shows in Bristol) put on their first show in two years on Bristol’s busy Park Street. We recently attended the opening of Hueless, a group show of black and white works at Malick Williams & Co. Although the exhibition may have lacked color, it certainly did not lack artistry, with an exciting selection of monochromatic pieces by the likes of D Face, Shepard Fairey, Erik Haze, Curtis Kulig, Pete Watts and Skullphone.
