Teaser: Herakut @ Gallery Springmann.Varol

After getting off to a great start by holding a grand opening show with French sensation JR (covered), Galerie Springmann.Varol follows it up with another stellar choice – Herakut (interviewed). Although we just got a taste of their recent work, we are looking forward to this solo exhibition by the German street art duo. We’ll have more to follow as we draw closer to the opening on June 11th. Discuss Herakut here.

Openings: “Art From The New World” @ Bristol City Museum

Our friends from the Corey Helford Gallery brought their West Coast Style to the West Country this evening for the much anticipated opening of “Art From The New World” at the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. It seemed as though UK art fans were highly responsive to some of the wonderful work on show at the preview night, with a packed house drawing in the crowd from the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. Some real visual treats are on offer, from the […]

Teaser: “The Next Generation” @ London Miles Gallery (Curated by Thinkspace)

With the opening of Corey Helford’s “Art From The New World” set to open this weekend in the Bristol (full coverage to follow), we look towards a show with similar goals coming up next month. “The Next Generation”, curated by Thinkspace, seeks to further promote a new breed of contemporary artists to the UK audience. The show will open on June 11th at the London Miles Gallery and will feature 12″ x 12″ pieces from each participant. One of the artists scheduled as part of […]

Update: Gaia

Haven’t heard from Gaia in while ever since hanging out a little at Art Basel Miami last year, but it looks like he’s participating in two shows in the next couple weeks. First up is a solo at Gallery Heist opening tomorrow night in SF (of which there are some preview pics after the jump). Then, on May 23rd, he’ll be part of the Axis Alley Project in Baltimore for which he put up this sick mural of his “Deny Him Three Times” image – it blends […]

Streets: Banksy in Boston

If we were privy to Banksy’s flight itinerary the last several months, this is what we might have seen: UK – Utah – UK -> LA -> SF -> Chicago -> Detroit -> Toronto -> Boston or some combination thereof (strange that he skipped NY). How do we know? Well, he leaves a trail of stencils (of course, we will never know for sure unless they are confirmed). Some of readers may have had Banksy overload ever since his documentary came out at Sundance, but […]

Update: Conor Harrington

According to his blog, it looks like Conor Harrington (interviewed) is in the Middle East somewhere working on a new project doing what he does best – big complex murals (seen above)! Hopefully we’ll see some of this in Los Angeles as Conor JR, Vhils, and Antony Micallef (interviewed) have next at the Lazarides popup space following the mindblowing David Choe show.  We’ll have more to follow on this soon… Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Reminder: “Art From The New World” @ Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery

Following on from our preview last month, Corey Helford Gallery will open “Art From the New World” at Bristol’s City Museum and Art Gallery in the UK this weekend, and this time not even an act of god is gonna stop em! Originally scheduled to open a couple of weeks ago, the showcase of work by 49 American artists was scuppered by the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. The official opening is now on Saturday 15th May, with an exhibition tour by Gary Baseman (featured) scheduled for 12pm and […]

Preview: Charming Baker – “Stupid Has A New Hero” @ New York Studio Gallery

Our friend Charming Baker has been busy setting up shop for his first ever show in New York. As promised in our teaser, here’s an inside look from New York Studio Gallery where the crew is putting the finishing touches on the exhibition which is set to open to the public tomorrow, May 14th. Remember this show only runs for two weeks, so make it count. Check out the exclusive preview after the jump.

Highlights: Recommended openings for this May 13 – 16

NYC is rocking it yet again this weekend – the big Charming Baker popup show, ROA continues to kill it in Brooklyn, Scott Musgrove returns to LeVine and the Willoughby Windows Project returns to the desolate storefronts of Brooklyn… the Big Apple is just on fire this weekend. Not to be outdone, the UK has the big ‘Art From The New World‘ show from Corey Helford Gallery rocking things up north at the Bristol City Museum and Gallery. Too much good stuff for one person […]

Eames Inspiration @ Barney’s New York

Wow, what a fantastic display at the Barney’s New York windows (Madison Avenue and 61st Street). Expanding on what we mentioned in our overtime article last week, Eames Inspiration is an auction curated by Luna Park and Billi Kid where artists like Aakash Nihilani, Elbow-Toe, Skewville, and Stikman were asked to customize the iconic Eames molded plywood chair to benefit Operation Design. More images after the jump…
