Art Focus: Kelly Falzone Inouye

Our Art Focus this week is on San Francisco-based artist Kelly Falzone Inouye and her Sitcom Series. The entertaining set of watercolors evokes some nostalgic memories for us old enough to remember some of these television shows back in the day. The series is in line with the philosophy behind her artwork which is to “document some of the more obscure aspects of popular culture, playing with the idea of collective memory through appropriation and manipulation of familiar imagery.” More paintings after the jump…

Art Focus: Matthew Cox

This week, our Art Focus is on Philadelphia-based Matthew Cox, whose series of medical x-rays and embroidery recently caught our eyes. The Parsons and Otis trained artist has taken radiographs and stitched back in his imagined content partially over the skeletal elements leading to an intriguing new mesh of reality and the imaginary. Art Focus: Patrick Krzyzanowski

Our Art Focus feature this week is on wrestling enthusiast and painter Patrick Krzyzanowski. The University of Guelph trained artist names this series of works, Smell the Blood, which features detailed depictions of these sports entertainers often in gravity defying and exaggerated poses. One can definitely feel Krzyzanowski’s love for the subject as well as his humor, all rendered surprisingly in watercolors. More images after the jump…

This week’s Art Focus features the haunting works of Korehiko Hino. The Japanese painter is known for his portraits of characters in trance-like states with large unblinking eyes often superimposed on vibrant backgrounds. We recently discovered the work of Jacek Yerka and we can’t get enough of it. The Polish artist’s paintings are filled with surreal visions of a beautiful world filled with landscapes and structures that the viewer wishes could be true because it would just be so damn cool. AM had the opportunity to sit down with the recently transplanted Australian duo of Dabs and Myla – a couple of artists that we’ve had our eye on for a while.
