Screening: “Bumblebeelovesyou” @ Epic Lounge

This Sunday, August 19th, the Epic Lounge in Downey, California will be hosting a screening of Bumblebeelovesyou by Handi. As the title suggests, the short documentary is about local street artist Bumblebee. Also available for purchase will be a nice little limited edition release from the urban “beekeeper” entitled Bee Is For Ballerina in an run of 20 (spraypaint and watercolor on paper) for those interested. Streets: World Roundup (July 23 – July 29)

This week’s roundup sees the return of David Ellis to the streets after the massive mural painted in Brooklyn last month. This latest tree piece was commissioned by Converse as part of they Wall to Wall campaign and features Ellis’ sinuous pattern (photo by Justin Carlson and courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery). The location is on 23rd Street and 12th Ave in Chelsea, just a short walk from the Joshua Liner Gallery which recently curated a show with Ellis and Kris Kuksi in Los Angeles. As you have seen from our coverage, Richmond, Virginia just had a stellar cast of artists roll by for the G40 Art Summit. To follow that up, this weekend sees more murals in town for the RVA Street Art Festival with another sweet lineup of artists. Fresh off a summer that saw him exhibiting in the Portsmouth Museum of Art and causing a ruckus in the streets of New Hampshire, Bumblebee goes all out in a return to his hometown with these two recent pieces. In yet another example of street art and graffiti’s acceptance and proliferation in fine art institutions across America, the Portsmouth Museum of Art hosts Street a.k.a. Museum, curated by LeBasse Projects’ Beau LeBasse. Openings: “Outside/In” @ LeBasse Projects

Last night, AM headed out to Culver City for the lone show on our schedule at LeBasse Projects. It was certainly worth the trip as we were greeted by work from a nice selection of artists in the Outside/In group show including Case, Herakut, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, SharkToof and Bumblebee. As a bonus, most of the participants were on hand before they head out to New Hampshire for the second part of the show at the Portsmouth Museum of Art. More opening pics after the jump…
