Openings: Takashi Murakami – “Flowers & Skulls” @ Gagosian (Hong Kong)

Last week, the Gagosian in Hong Kong presented a selection of works from Takashi Murakami entitled Flowers & Skulls, common reoccurring themes in the Japanese superstar’s imagery. The spacious showspace was a perfect backdrop for various paintings from his repertoire including his flower balls, stacked skulls, self-portraits and more. Matthew Feyld – ‘Untitled (197 Drawings)’ @ Nowhere Montreal

Matthew Feyld’s new book entitled Untitled (197 Drawings) has just been released by Blackdot Publishing, and to accompany the edition, Nowhere Gallery in Montreal hosted an exhibition under the same untitled title featuring many of the works presented within the book. Matthew’s drawings and paintings have been a point of fascination for us at AM for a while now, and we’ve enjoyed watching the evolution of Feyld’s work. Last night, AM stopped by the private opening of Cyrcle.’s new solo show titled Organized Chaos! Taking place in Los Angeles, this new exhibition by the two-man collective focuses on the central idea of the cube and the way in which bees and flowers relate to society as a whole. Those making it out to Basel Week Miami this year, make sure you stop by The Delano to check out David Lynch’s fictional club, the Silencio, reproduced in real life. If you recall, Club Silencio is the unusual nightclub of the same name in his 2001 film Mulholland Drive. Lynch has already created a replica in Paris by working on the interiors, including personally designing the furniture, but this will the first appearance for Basel. Last month, we shared with you the collaboration between James Jean (featured) and the BLITZ Lane Crawford Hong Kong. Not only was he launching his OVM line of jewellery and accessories there, there were also a special collection of scarves, pouches and iphone veils has been designed by the gifted painter exclusively for the store (buy them here). Basel Week Miami ’12 / Preview: Jen Stark @ The Miami Project / Cooper Cole

Another thing to add to the list to visit next week during Basel Week Miami is the Cooper Cole booth at The Miami Project (which appears to be a new fair this year). Jen Stark, who showed with the Toronto gallery (covered) last year (as well as in Los Angeles recently), will be presenting two new holographic pedestals, a variation on her cut paper sculptures.
