This week’s Art Focus draws your attention to the raw clay sculptures of Beth Cavener Stichter. The Washington State-based artist uses animal forms as a study on human psychology and the unconscious impulses of the human mind. She states – “On the surface, these figures are simply feral animals suspended in a moment of tension. Coming up next month, the Beals & Abbate Gallery in New Mexico will be hosting a solo exhibition from Frank Gonzales. Last year around the same time, the New York-based artist also presented a selection of his paintings of beautifully rendered scenes of nature, infused with an abstract overlays. After sharing one public arts project in New York from Yayoi Kusama with you earlier this week (here), we now turn our attention to the collaboration with Louis Vuitton on a fashion line entitled Infinitely Kusama. The artist’s renowned spots and vegetation tentacles currently adorn LV’s flagship store on the corner of 5th Ave. Similar to Takashi Murakami, whose Multicolore motif wrapped the retail space in 2008, Yayoi’s circles adorn the the exterior as well as the interior window installation. Releases: James Jean – “Duelist”

Described as “a love triangle for the ages, confounding flesh and reason, for all eternity,” James Jean’s (featured) new limited edition offering is printed on silk. The nine color silkscreen print is 36 x 36″, produced in a run of 100, and comes with signed and embossed certificate of authenticity. Last week, UK-based painter Matt Small (interviewed) opened a new solo show at Lackall Studios in London with a new body of work derived from his experiences while working on a youth empowerment project. Entitled Seen and Heard, the exhibition consisted of a series of portraits rendered in Small’s characteristic swirl of colors and attempts to bring a positive light to a subgroup of society that is often viewed negatively. Damien Hirst Flag Part Of London Olympics Closing Ceremony

With the Olympics coming to an end, all of London celebrated with a star-studded and rousing closing ceremony featuring some of England’s greatest cultural exports. Damien Hirst was asked to design one of the many renditions of the Union Jack in his signature spin-painting looking motif which was unveiled as part of the event.
