Preview: Damien Hirst – “Legend” & “Myth” @ Chatsworth House

Currently on view at the Chatsworth House grounds in the UK through October 31st is the annual Sotheby’s Beyond Limits sculpture exhibition. Included in this year’s showing are two new works from Damien Hirst entitled Legend and Myth, which are his dissected portrayals of a winged horse and a unicorn. On Thursday, September 22nd, David Shrigley will be at WORD Bookstore in Brooklyn, NY to celebrate the launch of WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? The evening will include a talk, book signing and sharpie tattoos by the Glasgow-based artist. Benefit / Preview: MTV RE:DEFINE @ Goss-Michael Foundation (Dallas)

The MTV Staying Alive Foundation will be holding a benefit art auction and exhibition entitled RE:DEFINE to mark the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the AIDS virus. Swoon – “Anthropocene Extinction” @ ICA Boston

As we previewed the installation process a couple weeks back, Swoon (interviewed) has now completed her site-specific installation Anthropocene Extinction for The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA). Just several hours ago, the Honor Fraser gallery finally unveiled the latest works by New York-based artist KAWS. This show, Hold The Line, marks his second return to the gallery (see 2009) and the artwork on display was more than enough to warrant the attention and interest this show had been garnering ever since it was first announced. Openings: Jessica Hess – “It Finds You” @ White Walls SF

Last Saturday, San Francisco-based realist painter, Jessica Hess opened her first solo White Walls exhibition entitled, It Finds You. Hess typically likes to take traditional landscape painting and concentrate on areas of decay, abandonment and graffiti. In addition to her works of oil on canvas, the show also includes photographs, smaller works of gouache on paper, as well as and an installation of work done on old spray cans which are used to contrast and compliment her paintings.
