Openings: Scott Campbell – “Blankness Is Not A Void” @ Marc Jancou Contemporary

Last night, AM stopped by the Marc Jancou Contemporary to check out New York-based Scott Campbell part of the exhibition Blankness Is Not A Void, a three person affair that also included the late Steven Parrino and Raymond Pettibon (more on this later). The tattoo-turned-fine artist brought with him his signature cut currency as well as some delicate ostrich eggshell paintings, first seen at his recent Los Angeles show (covered) just last month. An interesting addition to this new body of work from Campbell was a series of pieces referencing the […]

Following-up on Hueless (covered), which consisted of all black and white art, Chelsea’s Mallick Williams & Co. recently opened a new exhibition entitled Spectrum, which is aptly named not only because of its array of vibrantly colorful works, but also because the group show features a wide range of contemporary painters, including Chor Boogie, Lu Gold, Kiji McCafferty, Erik Otto and Kate Pane. McCafferty, one of the standouts of the show, himself exemplifies the theme of variety: an emerging artist of Japanese and Irish descent […]

Focus: New York – “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

As stated in our focus on the Los Angeles portion of the Art in the Streets exhibition, the MOCA gave us a look at both the beginning of the movement and its roots. LA is the home of the museum and also the west coast street movement, but let’s not forget that Jeffery Deitch made his name in the streets of New York prior to his ascension to director of the museum. Mr.Deitch also made sure to carry the legends of the easts across the […]

The engaging interview touched on many topics including the self-made billionaire’s charitable goals and philosphies, his art collection, and the love-hate relationship the art community has with him.
