Children of a Lesser God, the first UK solo show by Los Angeles-based artist Sage Vaughn opens today at Lazarides Gallery in London. AM visited the artist’s studio last year as he prepared for both this exhibition and the release of hand-painted multiples — the latter screenprinted by Modern Multiples and painted with watercolours. Opening this Saturday, May 7th, at Los Angeles’ Richard Heller Gallery is Turning, a solo exhibition by Japanese painter Hideaki Kawashima. As mentioned in our coverage of The Magician’s Garden in San Francisco last month, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be releasing a print to coincide with the recent conclusion of the exhibition. Democratically chosen by collectors on his message board with overwhelming support, The Cerberus Project is now in the final stages of production, at a new printing house to correct some of the minor issues with the past couple, with release plans recently being unveiled. The premise of the show is to gather together artists of today with their interpretation of classical figure painting but with a contemporary twist. Last night, 941 Geary hosted the opening of Kevin Cyr’s (interviewed) solo Home in the Weeds in San Francisco. The last time he showed at the Bay Area, it was a two-person show at sister gallery White Walls (covered) and featured his popular depictions of the vandalized vehicles. This time around though, the Brooklyn-based artist brought along some still life paintings featuring everyday objects like old radios or pen knives.
