Releases: MARS-1 “Infinite Tapestry” Print @ Electric Works

San Francisco’s Electric Works recently released a great new print by Mario Martinez aka Mars-1 (featured). The edition, entitled Infinite Tapestry, is a silkscreen print using florescent UV inks on black velvet-flocked paper. According to Electric Works, “the color background was applied with a process called ‘Split Fountain’ in which all 5 colors are put on the screen and mixed into the gradient in one pull as the squeegee goes across the screen. Robert Longo is currently showing at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, and we are completely in awe of his the size, detail, and complexity of these new drawings. The centerpiece of this exhibition, entitled God Machines, is the installation of three large pieces featuring some of holiest places for the world’s largest monotheistic religions – Mecca in Saudi Arabia, St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. The new Chris Brown album F.A.M.E.’s cover is out and it features the art of Ron English (featured). Now we know what they were talking about when they were spotted having dinner together several months ago with Chris sporting a tattoo of Ron’s art on his arm. Slow Your Roll, the first UK solo show by Brooklyn art duo Skewville, launched last Friday at High Roller Society. AM took advantage of the East London gallery’s new Sunday opening hours to visit over the weekend in the calm of a non-preview atmosphere. On the way, we spotted one of Skewville’s recent outdoor pieces, featuring the painted and foam-stamped word “BEEF” aptly done on the shopfront shutter of a local butcher. Last Saturday saw the grand opening of OHWOW Gallery’s Los Angeles location. Batting in the lead-off exhibition spot was New York’s tattoo rooted artist Scott Campbell with his latest body of work entitled Noblesse Oblige (previewed). The name of the show implies that “whoever claims to be noble must conduct their life accordingly and in a manner that conforms to one’s position.” In other words, keep it real. On Thursday, we attended the opening of the new show by Lamar Peterson at Chelsea’s Fredericks & Freiser. Peterson’s talent lies in his ability to immediately draw in viewers, using bright colors, smiling faces and trompe l’oeil elementary-school style borders to create work that at first glance seems easy and accessible. AM recently had the opportunity to go visit Polly Morgan in her East London studio. We anticipated what we might see. Tales of Polly’s ‘chamber of horrors’ from friends who had visited previously sounded intriguing and exciting, and this promised to be a very different studio visit experience for us.
