Preview: Ron English @ Fifty24SF

For his upcoming show “Mythographic Vicissitudes,” Ron English created a series of paintings based on his interpretations of modern mythologies. Once again, Ron displays his versatility as this body of work features photorealistic painting, expressionism, drawings, a little of everything. He covers many topics, from bigfoot to UFOs to Jesus. Continuing with our coverage of Basel Week Miami, AM wanted to highlight another tantalizing find from the Scope/Art Asia fair: Wang Zhi Jie Wang Zhi Jie is a contemporary artist from China that wields a skillful brush and conjures up some very sexy and appealing imagery. Takashi Murakami Retrospective @ MMK Frankfurt

AM has brought a little holiday cheer straight from Europe.  Continuing with our coverage of Takashi Murakami’s show at the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, Germany (previewed here), we took some pictures of the amazing retrospective for the founder of the “superflat” art movement. Releases: Tim Biskup – Disco Tree Print

Openings: Yoshitomo Nara @ Blum & Poe

Last night marked the opening of Yoshitomo Nara’s solo show at Blum & Poe (previewed and teased). The show features a large scale sculptural installation, and a new series of paintings and drawings focusing on Nara’s signature pastel-hued girls. At the center of the exhibition was a prairie-style wagon installation by YNG, a collaboration between Yoshitomo Nara and Japanese design firm Graf.
