Openings: Dalek @ Redux Contemporary

Wish we could have attended the event ourselves, but luckily one of our readers sent us some opening pics from Dalek’s (interviewed) show at the Redux Contemporary that opened last night. Take a look at the whole set after the jump, and check out Dalek’s blog as well for additional photos.

Teaser: KAWS @ Honor Fraser

It looks like KAWS will be making a trip to the west coast in February for his show at LA gallery Honor Fraser. Entitled “The Long Way Home,” this exhibit (opening Feb. 21st) will feature new paintings, sculptural works, and an installation.   Apparently, there will also a specially curated show at Royal/T by KAWS, selecting from the vast collection of owner and collector Susan Hancock. Setup: Dalek @ Redux Contemporary

As previously reported, Dalek’s (interviewed) show Broken, Beaten, & Buried is scheduled to open tonight at the Redux Contemporary Art Center.  As you can see, Dalek and his crew are hard at work getting the installations ready for the exhibition.  We were expecting paintings but didn’t realize they would be prepping the walls as well…can’t wait to see it finished.  More installation pics after the jump.

Stephen Sprouse – Artist and Designer

The Louis Vuitton flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York City recently received the Stephen Sprouse treatment. The window displays feature neon light installations of Sprouse;s trademark Rose motif to showcase the launch of the brand’s Spring 2009 collection which pays homage to the late fashion designer and artist. Sprouse’s neon Day-Glo Roses really pop against the the subtle pattern of the location’s Takashi Murakami x Vuitton Multicolore wrap treatment (previously covered). Sprouse is best known for his Day-Glo bright, graffiti-printed, street influenced fashion […]

Vladamir Putin – 1.1 Million

Is this the ultimate celebrity art? Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin´s painting sold for $1.1 million at a charity auction recently, making it the most expensive painting ever sold in Russia. He supposedly only spent 20 minutes on it and had an artist paint in the rest. Russian celebrities were each given a letter of the alphabet as a theme and Putin received the Russian letter “u,” for “uzor” (pattern). Ironically as reported, he painted it just days before Russia turned off Europe’s gas supply […]

Andrew Schoultz & AJ Fosik @ Space 1026

Andrew Schoultz and AJ Fosik opened up a pretty amazing show full of complex installations last weekend at Space 1026 in Philadelphia. We have never really envisioned their work interacting but the kinetic energy of Schoultz’s frenzied imagery blends nicely with the sculpts of Fosik’s beasts and folklore – perhaps it’s the complementary color palettes. Not to mention, the cryptic letterings of Fosik combines with Schoultz’s penchant for incorporating the symbolism of U.S. currency to form a body of work that hints of conspiracies and […]
