Marcel Dzama & Shepard Fairey x N.A.S.A.

Marcel Dzama recently collaborated with David Byrne on this video from N.A.S.A. featuring the track “The People Tree.” This isn’t Marcel’s first foray into the music field as he has done album cover work in the past for artists such as They Might Be Giants and Beck. If you remember, N.A.S.A. collaborated with Shepard Fairey on a previous music video “Money” (seen below). We wonder what other artists they have lined up for the future. Partially via Boing Boing thru TWBE. Check out other music […]

Grateful Palate’s James Jean Wine

When AM visited James Jean’s “Kindling” show at Jonathan Levine (here), the gallery served up some delicious wine with some of JJ’s artwork on it. Turns out that James designed three series of wine labels for California-based Grateful Palate. There are three different types of wine in the line: “Southern Belle” Shiraz, “Diddley Boo” Riesling, and “Poor Thing” Grenache. Each bottle has one of three different artwork on the label. So, continuing with our coverage of artist & vineyard collaborations (here) that entertain the eyes […]

Openings: Takashi Murakami @ The Gagosian, London

The exhibition of Takashi Murakami’s latest work (teased) at the Gagosian’s smaller London gallery on Davies Street opened last night to an enthusiastic crowd.  Arrested Motion was on hand to check out the latest from this prolific artist and leader of the Superflat movement. It turned out to be a small show that will accompany the major exhibition at Bilbao’s Guggenheim.  The Gagosian space was dominated by just three massive works – two paintings from Murakami’s Time Bokan series and one simply huge piece featuring […]

Wouldn’t it be great to travel the globe and check out your favorite artists in a foreign land? Well, our first WORLD TOUR is in the works. Here’s a little teaser to keep you busy… Can you guess where our first “tour-stop” is? Better yet, can you figure out who our AM correspondent is? (Hint: that’s his sketch book.)

China’s Contemporary Art Crisis

As AM reported in past months (here), the ailing financial situation has forced many notable galleries in the US and EU to close shop. While this disappointing trend in the western art markets concern many, it pales in comparison to the crisis that is currently plaguing China’s contemporary art market. In Beijing’s famed Dashanzi art quarter alone, over 50 galleries have gone out of business. Even the annual Asian International Art Fair scheduled for March 11-15 at New York’s Park Avenue Armory, has been canceled due […]

Interviews: Jin Young Yu

If you remember, we were quite intrigued with Jin Young Yu’s transparent sculptures that were displayed at the Pulse Fair at Art Basel Miami last year. We were lucky enough to be able to interview her because of the efforts of AM friend Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed), who provided the translation for the Korean sculptor as well as added some questions of her own. Check out the interview after the jump.

Shepard Fairey arrested in Boston

It seems that the Boston Police Department were not at all impressed by Shepard Fairey’s status as Presidential portraiture or his 20-year retrospective at Beantown’s Institute of Contemporary Art. According to The Boston Globe and Huffington Post, Fairey was arrested last night around 9:15pm as he tried to enter the ICA, where he was scheduled to DJ the museum’s sold-out Experiment Night dance-party (with tickets going upwards $500 on Craigslist). Police Officer James Kenneally stated the department had Jan. 24 warrants alleging the Los Angeles artist tagged […]
