A couple weekends ago, Josh Keyes (interviewed) unveiled a new body of work entitled Implosion at Thinkspace Gallery for his long awaited solo show in Los Angeles. The new paintings continue the Portland-based artist’s thoughts on a possible dystopian future, something even more frightening in this political climate. Upcoming: Jose Parla – “Mirrors” @ Brand New Gallery (Milan)

Coming up on September 21st, Jose Parla will be opening a solo show in Milan at Brand New Gallery that reflects on memories from his travels in Italy. Entitled Mirrors, the new work incorporates parts of posters ripped from off the walls of Milan, Rome, Napoli, Matera, Bari, Lecce and Bologna. This collage technique will add further depth and texture to the Brooklyn-based artist’s signature urban calligraphy, as well as re-contextualizes the found materials. Discuss Jose Parla here.

Previews: AJ Fosik – “From Ripe to Rot” @ Library Street Collective

On August 19th, Library Street Collective will be opening a solo show from AJ Fosik (featured) entitled From Ripe to Rot. Inspired by city he was born in, the Motor City’s continued evolution, transformation, and reinvention fuels the ideas behind this new body of work featuring his intricate wood assemblages. Fosik’s practice is informed by folk art, taxidermy, and cultural rituals which can be seen in the three dimensional beasts he creates as well in the newer more contained compositional pieces. Spanish artists Sebas Velasco & Iñigo Sesma, recently took part in the refreshing Graffiti Na Gradele festival on the scenic island of Brac in Croaita. The two San Sebastian-based friends and studio mates painted a new collaborative piece titled Yugoslav riviera at the children park on the edge of the local harbor. Though fine art painters rather than street artists, Velasco and Sesma enjoy working in the urban environment and translating their painterly approach on a bigger scale in public. James Jean – “The Shape Of Water” Poster

Recently, James Jean (interviewed) revealed the artwork he finished for a new movie from Guillermo del Toro – The Shape Of Water. The romantic horror film centers around a mute janitor who falls in love with an amphibious man, a scenario captured perfectly by Jean’s artistic vision.
