This week’s video Rewind has a mini-documentary (source) on Gary Baseman (featured) produced by Eric Minh Swenson at the very top of the list. The in-depth interview reveals his thoughts behind his character Toby and his travels, his love for masks, how his sketchbooks document his travels, creating his own holiday, various characters he has created, the mythology behind his imagery, his personal history, and more. The footage also gives you an extensive look at his studio. Look for a major retrospective from Gary at the Skirball next […]

Streets: Desordes Creativas Festival (Part II) – Ericailcane

On many occasions in the past, where you find Italian street artist Blu putting in work, you will see his equally gifted compatriot Ericailcane getting up as well. The Desordes Creativas Festival in Spain is no different (see Blu’s piece here) as the “Eric the Dog” has produced a mural in his narrative style featuring what look to be the prey revolting against the “king” bird. The gifted street painter certainly has a way of composition and style that makes the viewer wonder what part of an epic tale […]

Streets: World Roundup (July 16 – 22)

Leading off last week’s Streets: World Roundup is this amazing mural (seen above) painted over the course of a year by Josef Kristofoletti. The project was commissioned by the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research and was painted on the side of the ATLAS control room directly above the detector, near the Swiss-French border outside of Geneva by the Texas-based artist. It depicts the artist’s interpretation of what the Higgs boson might look like. For those interested, Kristofoletti also sent us a link […]

Streets: Ericailcane (Italy)

After hitting up Belgium with his illustrative murals, Ericailcane returned to his home country to put in some more work. This newest piece was painted in Modena, Italy featuring one of his beloved animals hoarding a stash coins tied in a stranglehold around its neck while teetering on the edge of a cliff. Pretty insightful commentary on the financial health of Europe don’t you think? Look for more from Eric the Dog for the upcoming Fame Festival. Photo by Ms Larsen (via Unurth).
