Continuing his collaboration with The Hundreds, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) will be releasing a skate deck and kicks (Johnson Mid) featuring his signature “Toile de Jouy” abstractions. The shoe’s pattern is based on the image above which is also chock full of pop references like Hank Williams, Franz Kline, Ed Ruscha’s Hollywood Sign, Lil’ Annie Fannie, and Green Eggs and Ham. This Saturday, Sept 11th, “Sweet Streets II” is set to open at the Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra. After a successful exhibition last year, the group show inspired by the Japanese streets makes its return with an even nicer lineup of artists including Tessar Lo, Dominique Fung, APAK, Adolie Day, Bwana Spoons, Kukula, Julie West, Mari Inukai, Stella Im Hultberg and Amy Sol. Robert Longo x Bottega Veneta

In the ’80s, it was Robert Longo who originated the often-imitated (Apple iPod ads, anyone?) style of twisting, turning, and contorting action shots in his series Men in the Cities. Recently, Bottega Veneta came correct by hiring the artist to work on their ad campaign, instead of copying him. Longo’s photographs will appear in the Fall-Winter 2010/2011 marketing materials for the high-fashion label, continuing the recent trend of partnerships (Ryan McGinley, Aakash Nihalani, Eine, etc.) between artists and brands. The worlds of art and fashion design often collide, and it seems that Dan Baldwin’s (interviewed) multi-layered textures are soon to make it onto the clothing racks of London’s well-heeled fashionistas. Aakash Nihalani x Sean John Pop Up Store

When Sean John opened up their pop-up store last weekend in Miami Beach, just in time for Super Bowl, it was with the artwork and design of Aakash Nihalani (who just opened his show at Carmichael Gallery). Ryan McGinley, famed photographer, but also aspiring feature film director, recently directed a video (watch it after the jump) for luxury knitwear brand Pringle of Scotland. It stars Tilda Swinton (whom McGinley has long admired) in a Pringle of Scotland dress and features signature McGinley scenes, such as forest, rocks, waves, and caves. Sorry, no nudity this time.
