Openings: ROA – “Stop Over” @ Bodson-Emelinckx

After sharing some shots of ROA hard at work setting up his show in Brussels, it’s now time to check out the fruits of his labor. Stop Over at Bodson-Emelinckx Gallery opened to a packed house as the Belgium-based artist’s home country’s fans came out in force to support the street muralist. The showing featured multiple installations imitating a laboratory that are similar to what ROA has done in the past, but this latest iteration looked very refined and finished. Paintings on found objects were nestled […]

Upcoming: Ron Mueck @ Fondation Cartier

Coming up in April, Fondation Cartier continues their history of stellar exhibitions with a showing from acclaimed sculptor Ron Mueck – the first major display of his work that we have seen since last year (covered). The London-based artist is planning to exhibit nine of his recent hyperrealistic pieces, including three new ones produced specifically for this event featuring two teenagers in the street, a mother and baby, and an elderly couple on the beach. To accompany the exhibition, a new film documenting the artist at work will […]

Openings: Faile – “Les BALLETS de FAILE” @ Lincoln Center

After behind the scenes look at both the studio space and tower installation by Faile leading up to their monumental collaboration with the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center, the anticipation for the opening night performance brought out some of the who’s who of the New York street & urban art scene. Our peers at Wooster Collective & Brooklyn Street Art joined notables such as Tomokazu Matsuyama, How & Nosm, Logan Hicks and Carlo McCormick in the celebration of art & dance brought […]

Openings: Marco Mazzoni – “Il Ricordo è Un Consolatore Molesto”@ Galleria Patricia Armocida

As we mentioned in the preview for this show, this is Marco’s 1st solo show in a city where he has been working and living in for years. Along with medium-scale colored pencil paper drawings, moleskin paper drawings, and a site-specific installation that was announced for this show, the artist had another three mini moleskine books exhibited with three drawings that matched the theme and the spirit of this show. […]

Streets: How & Nosm (San Francisco)

AM caught up with How & Nosm in San Francisco just as they were completing their piece on the corner Hyde & Turk in a gated parking lot in the Tenderloin. The New York-based twins have been working at a lightning pace to make the most out of the daylight during their short stay in town. Check out more pics below, as well as their Instagram, which documented the progress. Discuss How & Nosm here.

Openings: GILF! – “i EXAM” @ Arcilesi Homberg

New York artist GILF! recently unveiled a fresh body of work at Arcilesi Homberg in DUMBO. Entitled i Exam, this brand new series of paintings comes from a different direction (as seen in our visit to her studio) than her previous graff & stencil style. Drawing from the experiences of recent travels to Berlin and Miami and utilizing the 90s visual effects of the “Magic Eye”, GILF flips the retro switch and begs the question that in the age of digital preoccupation and corporate & marketing bombardment, […]

Openings: José Parlá – ‘Broken Language’ @ Haunch of Venison

AM attended the opening of José Parlá’s Broken Language exhibition at Haunch of Venison in London last week, his first show in the UK since his significant and heavily calligraphic Adaptation/Translation exhibition back in 2008. Was it worth the wait? Hell yes. Having only had chance to see the majority of Parlá’s recent work vicariously via the internet since the Elms Lesters show, we – like many other UK fans of all things Parlá – awaited this new body of work with a strong sense of […]

Openings: JR @ Watarium Museum (Tokyo)

We recently gave you a sneak peek at French “photograffeur” JR as he worked feverishly to set up his first solo museum exhibition at Tokyo’s Watari Musuem of Contemporary Art. This past weekend, the show opened to a enthusiastic reception by the people in Japan. Highlighting his Inside Out project, which incorporated the residents from North East Japan (where the tsunami hit in March 2011), JR went big as he always does and wheat-pasted the exterior facade of the museum. On the inside, we saw a diverse […]
