Streets: Deih (Istanbul)

Take a look at this sweet comic-inspired wall painted by Deih recently for the Mural Istanbul festival. The character rendered beautifully in vibrant colors by the Spanish artist seems to be doing something of cosmic significance. Other artists scheduled to take part in the event include Aryz, Canavar, Cins, Esk Reyn, Kristy, Levi, Nuka, Qbic, and Wicx. Take a look at more detailed images and in-progress shots below…

Known of her undulating sculptural creations through the unconventional use of feathers, Kate MccGwire currently has some works on display at various locales. Some of her pieces are at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol alongside work from Peter Randall-Page (through September 10th) – you can read more about it here. Streets: Pejac (Tokyo)

After stopping in Hong Kong (covered) and Seoul (covered), Pejac finished his Asian tour with the most anticipated part of his trip – Tokyo. In his previous works, the Spanish artist has often used elements from Japanese culture, so it was very interesting to see how the land of the cherry blossom, samurais, etc will inspire him. While mostly focusing on paying respect to their tradition and rich culture, some of the works he created pointed out some negative aspects of modern Japan. POW! WOW! Long Beach ’15: James Jean

Over the weekend, James Jean (interviewed) completed one of his tallest murals yet for POW! WOW! Long Beach (see our coverage here). Painted on the side of the historic Varden Hotel in the heart of downtown, the striking black and white mural was placed next to a wall by Tristan Eaton (more on this later). Takashi Murakami x Vans Vault Showcase @ Hotel Du Grand Veneur

Over the weekend Hotel Du Grand Veneur in Paris hosted a collaborative showcase between Takashi Murakami and Vans. Coinciding with this season’s Paris Fashion Week, the launch event featured shoes (adult and child), skate decks, surf boards, tees, and related artwork. as well as a roundtable conversation with the esteemed Japanese artist. Openings: Masakatsu Sashie – “Blind Box” @ KP Projects // MKG

Just this last Saturday night, Masakatsu Sashie was at KP Projects / MKG presenting some new works in the project room, complementing Jeff Soto’s exhibition in the main space. Entitled Blind Box, the series of oil paintings and drawings centered on the Japanese artist’s striking spheres of manmade objects. The suspended orbs are beautifully rendered and are overlaid over urban environments speaking to ideas of globalism and universality. Over the weekend, fans of Jeff Soto (interviewed) enjoyed his first showing in Los Angeles in almost a decade. Entitled Nightgardens, the exhibition of KP Projects / MKG featured a series of new acrylic on panel and watercolor paintings incorporating some of the Riverside-based artist’s familiar characters in the midst of some adventure as well as some more abstract still-life like compositions. Streets: Surface Project (Copenhagen)

The 5th show on Søren Solkær‘s Surface world tour opened on June 12th at Øksnehallen in central Copenhagen. The exhibition itself features 122 portraits of some of world’s most famous street artists, who were all featured in his recent book Surface (covered). To celebrate this big event, the Danish photographer invited six international and esteemed artists to create large-scale murals in the streets of Copenhagen.
