Previews: Da Mental Vaporz – “The Wall” @ BC Gallery

Members of the French street-art collective Da Mental Vaporz  are currently in Berlin, working hard on their upcoming collaborative exhibition, The Wall, opening on the 26th of May at BC gallery. The show will include a display of works in the two spaces of the gallery, as well as two large public murals that can be seen in the surrounding area. Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia recently opened a group show titled Department of Neighborhood Services on the 11th of April. Streets: La Tour Paris 13 Demolished

The other day, the inevitable end of La Tour Paris 13‎ project (covered) started. The big (de)construction machines surrounded the building inside which 100 artists from around the world left their mark, and started tearing it down. This project was curated by Mehdi Ben Cheikh from Galerie Itinerrance, and was undertaken with the idea to paint the inside of this abandoned building creating the biggest street art exhibition in France. Upcoming: Barry McGee, Dan Murphy, Isaac T. Lin – “Department of Neighborhood Services” @ Fleisher/Ollman Gallery

On April 11th, the Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia will be opening a three person show starring Barry McGee, Dan Murphy (part of Steve Powers’ ICY Signs), and Isaac T. Lin (DFW zines). Entitled Department of Neighborhood Services, the exhibition will reunite the three friends who all have an interest in graffiti and all who have shown together before. Openings: STASH – “Sprayed In Full” @ The Seventh Letter

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to attend the opening of a show from New York graffiti legend STASH (featured). Entitled Sprayed In Full and held at The Seventh Letter gallery in Los Angeles, the exhibition featured a series of works on canvas and paper featuring the same abstract splatter, inspired by elements of graffiti that have made him a wanted man for collaborations with streetwear and fashion companies (as evidenced by a new shoe design from Reebok – also one of the sponsors of the show). Showing: Stohead – “Now” @ Galerie Lefeuvre

German artist Stohead is currently having a solo show at Galerie Lefeuvre in Paris, showing for the second time in their space. Titled Now, the show features 14 colorful, large size canvases in which he mixes his signature tagging and calligraphy elements with abstract smoke elements. Slightly different than some of his previous paintings that are mostly focused on letters, this body of work feels like a step forward for the Berlin-based artist.
