Preview: “Outside/In” @ LeBasse Projects & Portsmouth Museum of Art

This Saturday night, April 23rd, Outside/In opens at LeBasse Projects’ Culver City Gallery featuring a group of internationally-known street artists. The list includes Case, Herakut, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, Hush, SharkToof and Bumblebee and will continue on to the Portsmouth Museum of Art in New Hampshire with the opening there scheduled for May 11th.  While back east, along with exhibited a seperate series of works, the artists will also be traveling there to paint a selection of walls throughout the city. This Saturday night, January 29th, Corey Helford Gallery will be hosting the “In The Nursery” group exhibition featuring reinterpretation of classic American nursery art. The artists involved are hail from diverse genre’s of art including Aiko, Tom Bagshaw, Scott G. Openings: Hush – “Found” with White Walls in New York

On Friday, AM attended the opening of Hush’s (interviewed) latest show Found in New York’s hip Lower East Side. The pop-up show hosted by White Walls Gallery was a quick drive-by as it only lasted the weekend. Held in the beautiful Angel Orensanz Foundation for Contemporary Art, the historic synagogue was transformed into a grand display with the help of some creative lighting and Hush’s “Geisha Portrait” series which we previewed recently in a studio visit. One of the most exciting shows we’ve recalled writing about that takes place in New Hampshire is coming up.  SugiPOP! is co-curated by Beau Basse of LeBasse Projects and will take up residence at the Portsmouth Museum of Art.  It is an exhibition centered around Sugi (meaning “too much”), which is contemporary art inspired by anime, manga and comics.  It includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos and original artwork used to make anime films and manga comics. Update: Hush

It looks like the newly married Hush (interviewed) is hard at work on a new body of work for presumably an upcoming show. “Distant Portraits” will series of large paintings looks to be a continuation of his more mature and realism centered work which started with his show in SF last May.
