Video: Bender from Futurama as Invader

Just like the previous intersections of popular animated series and our art world (see Souther Salazar x Family Guy, Shepard Fairey x Family Guy, Shepard Fairey x South Park,  and Ron English x Simpsons), Futurama has now upped the ante with a clip of Bender running around putting up “street art” stylized after the tile work of Invader. Streets: Invader in San Diego

As we have reported, the “Viva la Revolución : A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape” group show is fast approaching. While Barry McGee et al. were leaving their controversial mark in San Diego, Invader has been quietly getting up around town with his signature tile work, even getting close to the Navy ships stationed there it seems. There is method to his madness though as you will see in the video trailer after the jump; his path of street work forms a huge invader piece […]

San Diego, hold on to your hats because the urban art movement is about to move into your neighborhood. Preview: “Grifters” Group Show @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

It appears that the preparations for Lazarides’ group show “Grifters” is already in full swing (teased). With most of the works already arriving inside the gallery, the artists got busy around the streets of London. Our friend Ian Cox went on an urban expedition with all the artists from this amazing group show including: David Choe, Vhils, Invader, Mode 2 among others for some in-progress photos of their outdoor work. His pics (see the full set here.) also gives a quick little preview of what is to be a colossal show at […]

Streets: Invader – “Low Fidelity” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

As expected, Invader took his time to visit buildings around the area with his tile work, coinciding with the opening of his solo at Lazarides (covered).  From the look of these new London pieces, he seems to be transitioning to some larger scale work, perhaps making it harder for “collectors” to take them off the streets.  Don’t know how long he is in town for or whether these went up before or after the opening but more and more seem to be popping up. More […]

Openings: Invader – “Low Fidelity” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

“Low Fidelity,” (previewed) the latest body of work from French urban artist Invader, has taken over Lazarides – Rathbone Place. Featuring his “Rubikcubism” technique, an offshoot of his artistry with colored tiles, Invader utilizes the faces of the popular puzzle game as pixels in his images, which he utilizes to create a new series of classic rock and roll album covers,  sculptures, drawings and mosaics. Invader takes things a step further in some of the works by adding a high-tech twist to his very low-tech pieces through the integration […]

Preview: Invader – “Low Fidelity” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Fresh off his show at Jonathan LeVine with WK Interact in June, Invader hits the gallery circuit again, this time at Lazarides – Rathbone Place. “Low Fidelity” opens this Friday, August 14th and will include sculptures, mosaics, drawings, a new series of Rubik classic album covers (his tribute to Michael Jackson seen above). If you haven’t had a chance to see his “rubikcubism” technique yet, check this video. See if you can guess some more of the album covers after the jump…

Openings: Invader & WK Interact @ Jonathan Levine

On Saturday, Invader and WK Interact drew a big crowd trying to catch a glimpse of the two hard-working artists from Europe’s Street Art scene. It was a treat to see both artists create large sized works to fill the walls of Jonathan Levine’s multi-room gallery. The works from WK conveyed much raw energy and emotion as hinted in our preview. The door installations were astonishing as each one was adorned with endless details that had to be seen to be enjoyed.  Invader was equally entertaining, […]

Preview: Invader – “Top 10” @ Jonathan Levine

We got a few more sneak peek images from the upcoming Invader “Top 10” show opening this Saturday at Jonathan Levine. The artist known to tile 80’s pop icons from Pac Man to his infamous Space Invaders across five continents is pulling out a new body of work that involves hundreds of Rubik’s Cubes forming each of his pixelized masterpieces (check out the process video we posted last week). The work featured above is actually designed to be read as “QR Code” by your camera phone and […]
