Previews: Isaac Cordal – “Cement Eclipses” @ Anno Domini

On this Friday (September 6th), Spanish artist Isaac Cordal will be bringing his Cement Eclipses stateside for a showing at Anno Domini in San Jose, California. His street interventions consisting of sculptures steeped with political and social implications have been hitting countries around the world for several years now. No doubt some of these pieces and the resulting photography will be appearing in some form at this latest exhibition. Discuss Isaac Cordal here.

It’s been over a year since we brought you photos from an Isaac Cordal exhibition (Barcelona). So, we are happy to share some shots of the Spanish street artist’s latest solo at the Temple of Gout in Nantes, France entitled The New Slavery. Headlining our Streets: World Roundup this week is a rare extraterrestrial piece from Invader. After a failed attempt last month, he has finally lived up to namesake and invaded space with his tiled works. Launching from Miami, Florida where he is preparing for his next exhibition, the French street artist was able to send his imagery into orbit with a helium balloon fitted with a camera to document it (and GPS to retrieve it). For our summary of walls this week, we have for you as our featured wall – REYES in Detroit. The motor city has become one of the hotspots for street activity recently as the tanking economy has ironically led to more abandoned buildings facilitating the rise of public art. For our streets roundup this week, we’ll start with this interesting new piece in Detroit. The mural painted by SEVER was taken from the Instagram feed of SABER (interviewed) and looks to be a tribute piece to some of the greats in the street art scene like Barry McGee, Os Gemeos, Kaws, Futura, and Shepard Fairey. Openings: Isaac Cordal @ RAS Gallery

Last Friday, RAS Gallery in Barcelona hosted the opening of Isaac Cordal’s latest collection of works which were presented by SUBEN and curated by Maximiliano Ruiz. Cordal’s outdoor sculptural interventions, which often times are political in nature, made the transition to the gallery setting with pieces arrayed on a series of shelves and with floor installations. Another weekend, another Streets: World Roundup here on AM. The highlighted mural this time comes from Tahrir Square in Egypt where Sheikh Khan painted one of the barriers that the Egyptian military erected to divide the streets that connect to government power centers.
