Last week, KAWS announced his latest project, a collaboration with Nancy Gonzalez on a handbag collection. Continuing his foray into the fashion world (also see Uniqlo & Mira Mikati), the Brooklyn-based artist lent his iconic double x’s to the Colombian designer known for her handbags of exotic leathers and brightly colored hues. Openings: KAWS – “BFF” @ Central Embassy (Bangkok)

A couple of days ago, Central Embassy in Bangkok unveiled the latest large-scale sculpture from KAWS, standing 8 meters tall outside their complex. Produced with the help of curator AllRightsReserved, the event also featured a plush version of the figure, which looked to be a cross between Elmo & The Cookie Monster, remixed the the Brooklyn-based artist’s double-x eyes and skull & cross bones. Coinciding with the start of Basel Week Switzerland, an exclusive opening night on June 12th was held for KAWS’ latest solo showing. Three years since his debut show with the gallery (covered), the New York-based artist is back in Giswil for another exclusive showcase with More Gallery. Along with peeks at the new 8 meter tall sculpture from KAWS to be unveiled soon in Thailand, fans of the Brooklyn-based artist are also excited to see a new product line release. The project at Central Embassy in Bangkok, produced with the help of curator AllRightsReserved, will feature a new character called BFF that looks to be a mix between Elmo and the Cookie Monster with the artist’s distinctive double X’s for eyes. Last week, Seoul was the first stop for KAWS before heading to Thailand later this month to reveal a new project. Further expanding his reach into Asia, KAWS will be opening up a new project at Central Embassy in Bangkok at the end of this month. Teaming up with curator AllRightsReserved again, the New York-based artist will be introducing what looks to be his sculptural version of Elmo remixed with his signature companion treatment at the architecturally stunning luxury retail & hotel complex. Coming up this weekend, KAWS will be presenting new works to his fans in Korea at Galerie Perrotin’s new outpost. The newly opened space (1F 5 PALPAN-GIL, JONGNO-GU) will be the setting for the New York-based artist’s first visit to Seoul City. Look for more paintings featuring his continually evolving abstractions of his favorite cartoon, comic, and pop culture inspired characters. The show runs from June 2nd to August 27th. Recently, Nigo announced that KAWS will be designing Uniqlo’s UT line for spring. The new collection, scheduled to be on sale April 22nd, will consist of 12 T-shirts with the Brooklyn-based artist’s imagery. By the first look, they are everything KAWS fans would hope for. The Companions, X’s, gloves, eyes and Chums, all rendered with the American artist’s recognizable line work, have found their way on to the backs and fronts of the tees.
