Candice Tripp & Giles Walker – “I’M NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN!” @ Black Rat Projects

Painter Candice Tripp (interviewed) and Giles Walker (known for his immersive robotic installations) have a collaborative show with a public opening scheduled this Saturday (November 30) at Black Rat Projects. IʼM NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN will include individual works from the two artists like the Tripp paintings seen here as well as several collaborative installations (hinted at in the photo directly below). Based on the prior works from the two, the intersection of their worlds promises to be dark and beautiful at the same time. Discuss Candice Tripp here.

Previews: Cyclops – ‘The Way of All Flesh’ @ Outsiders (London)

For us here at AM, Cyclops has been one of the most interesting, and certainly most talented gallery artists to come from the contemporary graffiti world in the UK. His work has seen him revolve back and forth from using his real name to the moniker he was given whilst painting with the much lauded and sadly missed Burning Candy crew. The Way of All Flesh is very much a Cyclops show though – and what a show it appears to be. The exhibition features a series […]

Showing: Sweet Toof & Rowdy – ‘Drifters’ @ See Studio

Editor’s note: This post was guest written for AM by Alex Ellison. Having seen Alex’s photography captures of the work by these two prolific street artists over the years, and his expert knowledge of the historical context of their work, there seemed like no-one better than Alex to cover this exhibition for us even though we’d made the trip to London to see the exhibition ourselves…  Last weekend saw the opening of Drifters, a joint show of new work by Sweet Toof and Rowdy, following on from […]

Upcoming: Adam Neate – “HISTORY” @ Elms Lester

For Adam Neate (interviewed) fans out there, you will want to make plans to be in London this Saturday (November 16th 10:00am – 1:00pm) for the opening of HISTORY. Attendees of the Elms Lester show will see over 35 portraits (created since 2006) on loan from collectors that will show a nice progression the British artist’s portraiture from works on cardboard to his more recent “dimensional paintings” (like in his 2012 show). Discuss Adam Neate here.

Showing: Kehinde Wiley – “The World Stage: Jamaica” @ Stephen Friedman Gallery

Currently showing at the Stephen Friedman Gallery in London is Kehinde Wiley’s The World Stage: Jamaica. For his first ever UK solo exhibition, and coinciding with the start of Frieze Week, the American artist continues his acclaimed series of works painting urban youths in the poses seen in 17th and 18th century British portraiture. In this instance, it is also the first time Wiley has included women in this series of works which further explores ideas history, power, race, and gender. Take a look at more installation […]

Upcoming: Gregory Euclide – “Whose Land We Laid Down & Wiped Away (Mine to Make / Bury to Forget)” @ StolenSpace

On November 7th, Whose Land We Laid Down & Wiped Away (Mine to Make / Bury to Forget) will open at the StolenSpace Gallery in London featuring the work of Gregory Euclide. Utilizing his signature mixed media technique, the paintings with strong sculptural elements will examine man’s relationship with nature via his imagery depicting both pastoral scenes as well as man-made structures. Discuss Gregory Euclide here.

Openings: Hush – “Fatales” @ The Outsiders

After completing a high profile project working on the interiors of TAO a the Maritime Hotel in New York, Hush (interviewed) returned to the UK to open a solo at The Outsiders in London. Fatales features paintings and sketches from the Newcastle-based artist rendered in a style familiar to fans of the Hush melding Eastern & Western influences. Attendees were also able to enjoy one of the walls of the space, covered with a mural created in a aesthetic similar to the portraiture work in the show. Photos via the […]

Streets: Ludo (London)

French artist Ludo (interviewed) was recently in London, where he created several new works on the streets of the British capital. Along with leaving his recognizable mark in form of black and white pasteups with bright green accents, the artist arranged a new gallery representation in the UK with Lazarides. New pieces include an image of the grim reaper with a banana instead of scythe, a huge “armed” sunflower with bullets and machine guns scattered around, and a familiar pineaple/skull punk image. After this, the artist had […]

Frieze Art Fair ’13 : Highlights (London) – Part 2

Frieze London is one of the world’s leading art fairs and this year it took place from the 17th – 20th of October in Regent’s Park. For its 11th edition, the fair hosted 152 galleries which attracted around 70,000 during the six days of the opening of both Frieze London and Frieze Masters. To enhance visitor experience at Frieze London, capacity was reduced this year, and for the first time, tickets sold out every day. Showing both artworks by the world’s biggest names in contemporary art, along with […]

Openings: Moniker Art Fair / The Other Art Fair (London)

Moniker Art Fair, one of the events on the week’s busy schedule in London, opened with a private view on the 17th of October. Sharing a venue with Other Art Fair, these two events attracted a huge mass of art collectors, enthusiast, gallery owners and artists. In a relaxed atmosphere, the crowd was able to enjoy some works from the street and urban art movement. Presenting both young and emerging artists, alongside some established and names, these two fairs were a great opportunity for young […]
