Showing concurrently with Audrey Kawasaki’s solo tonight at Thinkspace will be Stella Im Hultberg’s (interviewed) Hollow Resonance in the Culver City gallery’s project room. Hultberg’s new body of work include both acrylic on wood paintings as well as some looser pieces combining ink, watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencils. Expanding on her use of flowers in her compositions of late, the Portland-based artist has surrounded her pensive women with a bountiful supply of blooms and petals. Saturday night (November 12th) in Culver City, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) will be opening a new solo show at Thinkspace Gallery entitled Interlude. The new paintings feature a bolder yet still muted palette along with a more erotically-charged narrative for her beautifully rendered female characters. An expert at coaxing her ethereal muses out from the wood grain with her oil paints, the locally-based artist has assembled a stunning collection of vulnerable yet provocative female subjects for her fans in Los Angeles. Alongside Sandra Chevrier (interviewed) showing in the main space (covered) of Thinkspace in Los Angeles, Sean Mahan also presented a small solo show in the project room. Last weekend, Thinkspace in Los Angeles opened a solo show from Sandra Chevrier (interviewed) entitled The Cages; and the Reading Rooms of their Lives. The new body of work featured the Canadian artist’s signature portraits of women with painted and collaged comic book facial overlays with some of the pieces featuring a physically removable “mask” of superheroes. Anarchic Adjustment, a fashion clothing company originally founded in London and then popularized in San Francisco, is celebrating their 30 year anniversary revival at the Seventh Letter Gallery in Los Angeles. Entitled The Future Is Not What It Used To Be, the exhibition will be featuring mainly sculptural works dealing with the “uncompromising satire of mass distraction, narcissism and the hidden machine.” For those interested, the show opens on October 20th.
