This Saturday (June 14th), CoproGallery in Los Angeles will be presenting multiple mini-solo shows, one of which is from Chrystal Chan. The series of mostly new paintings from the San Francisco-based artist feature oftentimes metaphorical and spiritual-based imagery centered around her human and animal characters. On the afternoon of Saturday, May 31, FriendsWithYou celebrated the release of their We Are FriendsWithYou book, published by Rizzoli. The live signing event happened in their hometown of Los Angeles, at MOCA Grand Ave, with fans and friends of all ages. Before even arriving at the museum, music created by Money Mark could be heard as you walked to the courtyard. Showing: Aurel Schmidt & Pierre Molinier @ M+B Gallery

Last week, AM stopped by M+B Gallery in Beverly Hills to check out the current show featuring work from Aurel Schmidt and the late Pierre Molinier. The unexpected pairing actually worked out quite nicely thematically combining Schmidt’s exquisite, twisted, and creative drawings of human anatomy with the French artist’s erotic photomontages. Previews: Kazuki Takamatsu – “Spiral of Emotions” @ CHG Circa

On the 21st of June, CHG Circa in Culver City will be hosting the opening of a new show (see 2013) from Kazuki Takamatsu entitled Spiral of Emotions. Using a combination of digital and more traditional mediums, the ghostly portraits are created with depth map techniques and a layering process. The x-ray like paintings features adolescents and children, textured in graduated spirals, oftentimes juxtaposed against symbols death and violence – his portrayal of the youth or “lost generation” in Japan. This Saturday night (June 7th), the Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles will be hosting a solo show from Mars-1 (featured) entitled Toward A Distant Dawn. On display will be a new body of work featuring the Bay Area-based artist’s paintings of otherworldly imagery informed by cosmology, mathematics, altered states of consciousness, science, among other things. After providing you with a sneak peak setup look at Jacob Hashimoto’s MOCA Pacific Design Center installation, we are happy to be able to share images of the finished Gas Giant exhibition. The massive work seemingly alters the cube-like interior space of the PDC venue into a immersive, sublime, and otherworldly experience. This Friday night, the newly renovated Ace Hotel in Los Angeles will be hosting a screening of Takashi Murakami’s debut movie Jellyfish Eyes. The live-action feature film, the origins of which Murakami dreamt up over 10 years ago, will be shown at the historic theatre at the downtown hotel. It looks like there are tickets still available, including the premium package which includes the official Jellyfish Eyes book and a limited edition new sculpture produced by the artist for this event only. FriendsWithYou’s We Are FriendsWithYou has been released by publisher Rizzoli, and to celebrate, the duo of Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III will be signing books and providing fans with an interactive experiential installation in MOCA’s Grand Ave courtyard.
