Coming up next month (May 17th), the Martha Otero Gallery will be presenting London-based Pedro Matos’ first solo show in Los Angeles entitled Building Castles Made of Sand. The exhibition from Matos, who is originally from Lisbon, will consist of a new series of oil paintings on canvas and azulejo panels – a traditional Portuguese medium of hand-painted, tin-glazed, ceramic tile work. Streets: Dabs Myla x 123 Klan x Slick (Los Angeles)

Renewing a collaboration (sans ROID & Askew) that bore good fruit in Hawaii (see the epic mural here) for the POW WOW event, Dabs Myla, 123Klan, and Slick met up in Los Angeles to paint another wall. Combining talents from Australia, Canada, and the US respectively, the team whose signature style mix so well got up at the Branded Arts Building. Last weekend, CHG Circa presented a survey of the work of Ray Caesar (interviewed) – past and present. Featuring a mix of older limited editions as well as all new works, the Toronto-based digital artist reacquainted his fans in Los Angeles with his disturbing and surreal portraiture. One of the rare artists we feature who has made the unconventional medium a success, Caesar has proven his unusual and unique vision shines through no matter how he choses to express it. Over the weekend, the TrustoCorp collective opened their solo show entitled The Future Is Blight at the LeBasse Projects in Culver City. Along with all new works featuring their subversive humor, many crafted from modified corporate logos, the LA-based crew also included large-scale versions of the co-branded cereal box (a collaboration with Shepard Fairey) that they have been surreptitiously placing at local supermarkets. Through April 27th, Michael Kohn Gallery’s new project space (dubbed Michael Kohn Projects) at 7270 Beverly Blvd will have a Marion Peck solo on display. Featuring eleven new works entitled simply Animals, the show has the LA-based painter continuing her surreal rendering of anthropomorphized creatures. Opening this Saturday (April 13th) in West Hollywood is Gregory Euclide’s first solo exhibition with his West Coast gallery Martha Otero. The artist will present fresh work consisting of landscape relief paintings along with a series of porcelain-coated steel specimens painted with Japanese sumi ink. This Saturday night (April 13th), Ray Caesar (interviewed) will be unveiling imaginative new works mixed in with images from the past at CHG Circa in Culver City. His surreal and oftentimes disturbing digital works are painstakingly created in three-dimsional modeling programs and then staged in detailed environments. These are then released as limited editions in a chosen orientation and because of the freedoms afforded by this process, his three new pieces also have accompanying smaller cropped versions.
