Tomorrow night (June 30th) in Los Angeles, Thinkspace Gallery will be presenting new works from Alvaro Naddeo in their project room. Continuing the locally-based artist’s focus on the ideas of waste, overconsumption and social inequality, AmeriCan’t includes a selection of watercolor on paper works that create impossible structures from urban detritus and discarded items. Born in Brazil, Naddeo has also lived in Lima, New York, and now LA, experiences that shape what he paints along with influences from his time working in advertising.

Recap: Brendan Monroe – “Formations” @ Heath Ceramics (Los Angeles)

Continuing his longstanding collaboration with Heath Ceramics (also see 2014 in LA and 2015 in SF), Brendan Monroe (interviewed) recently held a showing at their Los Angeles showroom. Entitled Formations, the focus of the new body of the work was experimenting with Heath tile’s flat clay surface as a new medium for his organic patterns. Rounding out the exhibition was a selection of framed wall hangings, large and small, along with drawings and blob sculptures, some of which can still be viewed in the gallery space. Continuing his annual showings at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles, Eric Joyner (interviewed) will be returning for another solo on June 23rd. Cleverly entitled Glazed Machinations, the new body of work perfectly encapsulates what inspires him to paint – robots and donuts. Whether it be his signature Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots or incorporating the iconic Randy’s Donuts into his imagery, Joyner always finds novel new adventures for his two “muses” as well as unique ways for them to interact. Recently, Augustine Kofie (featured) teamed up with AiseBorn to paint an outstanding new mural at the former Rendon Hotel in Los Angeles. The harmonious joint effort on the 7th Street facade between the two locally-based artists was aided by the common elements that can be seen in their work like geometrical patterns, architectural influences, and a background in graffiti. It looks like while he was in town for the BEYOND THE STREETS exhibition (covered), Invader added to his prolific body of work on the streets of Los Angeles that stretches back over a decade. For what he calls the 9th wave of invasion of the LA, the French artist got up 29 new mosaics throughout the city including a sweet piece featuring The Dude placed perfectly outside a building that has a bowling alley.
