POW! WOW! ’15 / Openings: Thinkspace – “Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum Of Art School

Last night, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked things off with a group show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum Of Art School (111 Victoria Street). Entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, the exhibition featured an impressive and diverse roster or artists, each contributing a 12 x 12″ piece. Releases: Luke Chueh – “Jack” Figure

After the first appearance of Luke Chueh’s (featured) sculptural version of his classic Jacked painting from 2005 at one of his shows in 2013 (covered), fans have been wondering when some limited edition iterations would be released. Well, the time is now with preorders open for Jack, a 22 x 13″ cast resin figure in beautiful gloss white with silver chrome antlers. Produced in a run of 10 and priced at $2000 from Pretty in Plastic, it is now available here for collectors who are interested. Discuss Luke Chueh here.

Releases: Luke Chueh – “Boba Fett” Figure @ FLABSLAB

On November 21st, Luke Chueh (featured) will be releasing a figure based on his popular Boba Fett image, his ingenious combination of a popular Chinese drink and the fortuitously similarly named Star Wars character. The threeB event (boba, bears, and bounty hunters) will take place at FLABSLAB in Singapore where he will be available to meet and greet fans. In addition to the new resin art toy, attendees will also have a chance to buy the Los Angeles-based artist’s tote bags, prints and paintings for sale. […]

Openings: Luke Chueh – “Self-ish” @ CHG Circa

Over the weekend, painter Luke Chueh (featured) presented a new body of work to his collectors in Los Angeles entitled Self-ish. The show at  CHG Circa featured a continuation of one of his most recognizable series, the “You Are What You Eat” works, overlaid with some of his self portrait elements. Also seen were further explorations of his “Head Space” pieces, autobiographical musings, as well as more of is “Color Field” paintings. Coming up on October 11th, Luke Chueh (featured) will be opening his next solo in Los Angeles at CHG Circa. Entitled Self-ish, the new collection of paintings will feature some introspective musings as the locally-based artist takes a honest and closer look at his inner psyche. Openings: “SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot” @ Oakland Museum of California

Last weekend, the Oakland Museum of California opened a new exhibition, entitled SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the art and culture magazine Giant Robot. Along with a diverse selection of GR branded paraphenalia and publications, artists who have been involved with them over the years contributed original artwork as well as some wall murals. Releases: Luke Chueh – “Bitch” Figure

After introducing his collaboration with Pretty In Plastic at his last show (covered) in Los Angeles, Luke Chueh (featured) has revealed another image of his new art toy – Bitch. Like the Jack sculpture seen in that exhibition, this latest figure is based on a sculpt from Pretty In Plastic, and in this instance will be produced by Munky King. Openings: Luke Chueh – “Random Acts Of Sadness” @ CHG Circa

On Saturday night, Luke Chueh’s (featured) opened his latest solo show, Random Acts Of Sadness, at CHG Circa. The mostly new works featured paintings that placed his familiar animal subjects in humorous yet sad situations as well as pieces that poked fun at his critics with self-deprecatory references.
