Preview: Luke Chueh – “Bearing the Unbearable” Signing @ Spoke Art

Tomorrow night (July 5th) in San Francisco, Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be continuing his Bearing the Unbearable book signing tour (see Los Angeles). Also, of interest to Bay Area fans will be the release of new prints from his popular sushi series of paintings, with the originals created for a 2009 showing in LA. As mentioned here earlier, Luke Chueh (interviewed) is having a series of autograph and sketching sessions celebrating the release of his new book – Bearing the Unbearable. Last weekend, we dropped by Gallery 1988 (Melrose) for the first and largest of these signings which also included a series of sketches on display from the LA-based artist. Tomorrow, June 9th (from 1-4 PM), Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be at the Gallery 1988 (Melrose location) signing his new book Bearing The Unbearable. Covering work from 2003-2009, the monograph is the first major publication from the LA-based artist known for his dark and humorous imagery featuring his cartoon-like characters including his infamous bear. A couple Saturdays ago, the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City hosted the opening for Wild at Heart, a benefit show where some of the proceeds went towards Born Free USA. Two weekends ago in Sin City, LA-based artist Luke Chueh (interviewed) revealed the new paintings he had been working on for the last couple months. Tonight, February 2nd, Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be bringing a body of work inspired by the seven deadly sins to the Brett Wesley Gallery in Las Vegas for a joint show with Juan Muniz. The collection of paintings will certainly be appropriate for “Sin City,” as is the title of the show Primrose Path, an old idiom coined by Shakespeare to refer to a pleasant path to self-destruction.
