Meggs, who recently invaded San Francisco along with members of the Young and Free Aussie crew, apparently decided to head up even more north pay a solo visit to Vancouver. Prior to showing in San Francisco, the talented Meggs exhibited the second part of his Inner Demons exhibition at Melbourne’s Backwoods Gallery. Similar to his showing in London’s Red Bull Studios, the artist returned to his home country to display a collection of paintings, sculptures and prints utilizing his signature wild strokes & splash techniques. Kid Zoom, whom we last caught up with at his New York solo show, was recently featured in a video by Kingbrown Magazine. The detailed footage captures his can control and skills with spray paint quite well and will give you an idea of what to expect for the Young & Free show opening in San Francisco on September 10th at the 941 Geary. A couple of weeks back AM went along to take a look at Meggs‘ first London solo exhibition entitled Inner Demons. Hosted by Zero Cool at pop-up space Red Bull Studios, Meggs pulled together a collection of work from the many facets of his output using a combination of paintings, sculpture, assemblage and an intense installation comprising a demonic masked figure seated amidst a variety of porn, hooker calling cards, spent blunts, Chinese hell money, a crack pipe and emptied bottles of alcohol. The POW WOW wasn’t only an indoor affair. Being in Hawaii, the gang took full advantage of all that the beautiful tropical atmosphere had to offer. An entire side of the building (across from Fresh Cafe) was secured for the artists who quickly put their street game facse on. Prime, Wu Yue, 123Klan, Will Barras, Meggs, and Ekundayo grabbed their spray cans to work under the Honolulu sky. The weeks of setup for the POW WOW ’11 in Honolulu culminated in blowout showcase bringing together talent from different parts of the world. People all over Hawaii came to take part in the celebration where performance, photography, graffiti, and fine art intersected. It’s been a crazy few days since we landed in sunny Hawaii where the crew has been in the thick of getting ready for the big POW WOW ’11. We worked alongside our friends at Hypebeast, Booooooom and the rest of the sponsors to stretch canvases and build modular installation platforms in anticipation for Saturday night’s opening.
