The many faces of Anthony Lister (art mutant, street vandal, superhero activist), turned up with a couple hundred handfuls of adoring fans for his latest solo show in NYC at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, appropriately titled Power Tripping. This Thursday night, July 17th, it’s time again for Joshua Liner Gallery to put on their Summer Mixer group exhibition, a look at some artists making their debut with the New York showspace. Included in this show are works from Andrew Schoultz, Erin M. Riley, Guy Yanai, Kristen Schiele, Michael Theodore, Sam Friedman, and Robert Larson (whose work can be seen above featuring repurposed discarded tobacco packaging that he finds on the streets). Eight years after comedy giant Dave Chapelle walked off the set of the third season the Chappelle’s Show and into the veil of private life, he made a triumphant return to the spotlight of the Big Apple at the historic Radio City Music Hall recently. To commemorate this event, Chapelle commissioned artist Shepard Fairey to create unique artwork for the show. Last weekend, New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art premiered its retrospective of American artist Jeff Koons. Simply entitled A Retrospective, this exhibition bears significant importance to both parties. For the Whitney, it represents the last exhibition to be held at this original location before moving to their new home in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan in the spring of 2015. Spaces: The KAWS Studio

Followers of KAWS and his pop culture infused abstractions have always been impressed with his clean lifework and impeccable attention to detail. Taking a look at his Brooklyn studio, designed by Wonderwall in 2013, one can see similarities in the street turned contemporary artist’s taste in architecture. Earlier this month, Lori Earley (interviewed) opened up a new solo that had been a long time coming at Opera Gallery’s New York location. AM recently attended the much anticipated opening for Israel Lund at Lower East Side’s David Lewis Gallery. The eponymously named solo includes both his signature silkscreened canvas paintings along with a new series of sculptures which center around one of his core tools – the silkscreen. This Thursday night (June 19th), Arcadia Contemporary in New York will be hosting the opening for Michael Carson’s new exhibition. For his first solo with the gallery, the Phoenix-based painter drew references for his chic women and impeccably dressed men by his observations of people on the streets.
