Thomas Canto recently introduced his latest big project, the Illusory Perspectives installation at Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Mode 2 opened a new exhibition, Preludes, at Galerie Openspace in Paris last Saturday. The title refers to those moments of heightened anticipation when waiting for something exceptional, like when a beat is about to drop or a B-boy is swaggering onto the stage. Streets: Cleon Peterson // Nuit Blanche Paris @ Eiffel Tower

Following in the footsteps of Shepard Fairey (featured) of creating art at the Eiffel Tower (covered), Cleon Peterson has done something Mr. Obey has never had the opportunity to do – painting the first mural ever directly below the famed monument. Created for this year’s Nuit Blanche in Paris (organized by Palais de Tokyo), the piece is entitled Endless Sleep, a reference to the famous late-night cultural festival. The circular piece features the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature figures inspired by Greco-Roman frescos sans the usual provocative imagery. Discuss Cleon Peterson here.

On October 20th, Petit Palais in Paris will be opening up a new exhibition from Kehinde Wiley entitled Lamentaion. For his first solo show in France, the African American artist will be presenting ten pieces (stain glass works and paintings), some created in his signature style of posing anonymous youths from urban centers in the same way the subjects in classical portraiture. For this showing in particular, Wiley will continuing his use of religious iconography including a reference for the first time to the Virgin Mary. […]
