Previews: Kai & Sunny – “My Eye On You” @ Colette

On August 29th, Colette will be presenting My Eye On You, a new solo from Kai & Sunny. Using their usual technique of ballpoint pens on paper to build complex geometric forms, the UK-based duo have used the shifting flow of time as the foundation for each piece. Also included in the show will be collaboration with Toydrum on a limited edition vinyl record box set and show booklet. “Friends and peers have been asked to re-envision their music in whatever way they see fit. Some artists […]

Streets: SHOK-1 (Paris)

Shok-1 was recently invited to Paris by his artist friend Franck Duvall. During his visit, the pioneer of aerosol X-ray art painted a new mural titled Dark Magic. The image depicts hands forming a shadow puppet bunny, with the shadow behind being an anatomically correct X-ray of a rabbit. The clever idea is completed by mixing two different techniques which accent his unique style. The hands are drawn using brush and ink, creating clean lines and a sharp image, while the x-ray part is done using his […]

Releases: Liu Bolin – “Hidden in the City: the Louvre Pyramid (with JR)” Print

In May, we shared with you the amazing takeover by JR (interviewed) at the famous Louvre in Paris where he pasted over the iconic pyramid using photographs of the surrounding structures. Looking at the right angle, it appeared that the pyramid in the main courtyard “disappears” from sight. Who better to collaborate with next in an inception-like project than with China’s disappearing man – Liu Bolin? With both the French and Chinese artist painted over, the two friends (see 2012 collaboration) blended in with the already camoflauged pyramid behind them. This intriguing […]

Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Earth Crisis” @ Galerie Itinerrance

Last weekend, Galerie Itinerrance opened a solo show from Shepard Fairey (featured) that brought a brought full circle a project he started back in November of last year with an installation (covered) between the first and second floor of the Eiffel Tower entitled Earth Crisis. Along with a mural he painted earlier this month in Paris (covered), the series of works created in turquoise and blue is complete – pieces that the American artist hopes will remind us to take care of our air, water, and vegetation as well as to preserve our […]

Streets: Felipe Pantone (Paris)

Last month, Felipe Pantone visited Paris in order to create his contribution to the ongoing Lasco Project curated by Hugo Vitrani for Palais De Tokyo. Following the work from Stelios Faitakis, Olivier Kosta-Théfaine, Philippe Baudelocque, JR and Os Gemeos for the project, the prolific Argentinian-born artist and his team painted an impressive installation in the tunnel of the A86 Duplex, between Rueil-Malmaison in Vélizy, west of Paris. The young artist, known for his graphic based work that plays with dimensions, illusion and use of digital imagery, painted walls, floors and ceiling of this monumental space, took the […]

Upcoming: Shepard Fairey – “Earth Crisis” @ Galerie Itinerrance

Back in November of last year, we shared with you images of Shepard Fairey’s (featured) installation between the first and second floor of the Eiffel Tower entitled Earth Crisis. That high profile project was arranged by Galerie Itinerrance and was meant to draw attention to the global environmental crisis. On June 24th, the man who built Obey will be opening a show of the same name at the gallery in Paris featuring new works on canvas and paper, six new prints, and reproductions of the globe sculpture. Each piece […]

Streets: JR @ The Louvre (Part II)

After a first look at a new intervention at the Louvre from JR (interviewed) earlier this week, here are photos of the completed project. Pasting over the iconic pyramid in his signature technique was a time-consuming undertaking, but the impressive result is a testament to the French street artist’s artistic vision. Along with this “disappearance” trick, the TED winning artist will also be taking over the museum with conferences, masterclass, screenings, concerts, workshops on May 28th starting at 3pm. He further explains the project – “I will never forget this […]

Streets: JR @ The Louvre (Part I)

Over the last week, JR (interviewed) has been working on his latest high profile project – painting the iconic pyramid at the Louvre. The plan is to paste for the French “photograffeur” to paste a photo over the glass structure mimicking the building behind, leading to it “disappearing” from sight. He further explains – “I will never forget this day. Today I’m going to make the Louvre Pyramid disappear. It’s quite crazy being Parisian, passing the pyramid so often, then today realising I can make changes to it […]

Streets: Anders Gjennestad aka STRØK (Paris)

One month ahead of his upcoming solo show with Mathgoth Gallery, Anders Gjennestad aka STRØK visited Paris and painted his largest mural to date. After two days of work, THE Norwegian artist completed this 25 meters high piece that nicely presents his recognizable style. Depicting four break dancers in midst of their performance, this mural was like most his work – based on the photos the artist took himself. For this piece, he created realistic stencils from photographs, showing only the person and its shadow. Always playing […]

Showing: Felipe Pantone – “Data Smog” @ Lebenson Gallery

After a successful SF solo show (covered), Felipe Pantone recently opened another solo with Lebenson Gallery in Paris. On view through May 9th, Data Smog is a brand new body of work featuring his ultra-modern style, which is influenced by technology and science. Pantone’s progressive approach is a product of his long efforts to create graffiti that will stand out among the jungle of advertising and commercial signs. Fighting this global visual pollution, he created a methodology that fuses bold elements of graphic design with highly evolved geometric shapes and abstract hi-tech […]
