Showing: Phlegm – “The Bestiary” @ Howard Griffin Gallery

British artist Phlegm opened his first ever gallery show at Howard Griffin Gallery in Shoreditch on Saturday, the first of February. The Bestiary is entirely a non-commercial exhibition meaning the entire installation was created for the purpose of showing in this space only. The Sheffield-based artist has been working long days since mid December, building the installation, cutting up panels, and creating plaster sculptures that were later painted over in his recognizable style. With his impeccable feel for light and shadow, and  his meticulous, almost obsessive line work, these 3D creations […]

Streets: World Roundup (Oct 28 – Dec 1)

It’s time for another roundup of street art around the world that we didn’t have a chance to cover in-depth. First up is a mural from Case in Erfurt, Germany for the OQ Paint project. Utilizing the overlapping hand and finger imagery seen in his recent work (ie: New York), the Maclaim member created a special public work that fans in the city can enjoy for years. If you are interested in more in-progress photos, head over here. Other notable work comes from: Rone – […]

Rewind: Oct 7 – Oct 13

It’s been quite a while since our last Rewind feature, so it’s high time we bring you some videos. Starting things off is an explicit new music video from  Tyler, The Creator entitled Tamale. If you recognize the scene from 0:48 – 1:02, it’s because it is a scene based of a Mark Ryden painting who also designed the cover for his new album – Wolf. Other notable videos: An interview with Anthony Lister at Wynwood Miami last May. ROA, Phlegm and others recreate famous Baroque paintings. RuPaul drives […]

Streets: Phlegm (USA)

After participating in couple of street art festivals all over Europe, British muralist and artist Phlegm recently visited the East Coast of US. During his visit, he painted three huge murals, each quite different than the others, but all so recognizable and unique. The first one he did was in collaboration with the Bushwick Collective, on Troutman Street in Brooklyn. This image shows a huge giraffe that birds are using as a hideout from poachers that are catching them. Existing tags on the building were cleverly […]

Streets: Phlegm (Poland)

British muralist and illustrator, Phlegm, recently spent a couple days in the Polish capital, Warsaw, working on a new mural for the Street Art Doping festival. Once again, he got assigned an interesting wall by the organizers, with several different sized windows and parts of the plaster missing. Instead of covering these up, the Sheffield-based artist fully used the surface with all its given elements and created this mural based on the map of the world. Painting in close to 40 °C heat, Phlegm created an […]

Streets: Phlegm for the 2013 Bloop Festival (Ibiza)

Muralist Phlegm recently travelled to Ibiza for this year’s Bloop Festival which has just gotten started. Like his effort last year for the event held on the popular island in the Mediterranean Sea, the Sheffield-based street artist was given lots of space to work with. He didn’t waste much of it as he painted a huge robot appearing to examine bits of his own brain, but a closer look reveals some of his signature characters in CONTROL – the theme of this year’s festival. Other […]
