Preview: Tim Doyle – “UnReal Estate II” @ Spoke Art

Tomorrow night (February 7th), Spoke Art will again be the site of a solo show from Tim Doyle in San Francisco. The Austin-based illustrator and screen printer will once again be reprising his re-interpretations of famous TV show locations with a new body of work entitled UnReal Estate II (see part I from 2012 here). Clever takes on this unique subject matter include renderings of familiar places from shows like Futurama, Arrested Development, Firefly, The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Simpsons, and more…

Setup: Remio & Tim Diet @ Guerrero Gallery

AM recently stopped by San Francisco to visit Guerrero Gallery and caught the setup by Remio & Tim Diet as they prepared for their opening this Saturday. Installations / Previews: David Choong Lee – “Organic Updates” @ 111 Minna

Opening tonight (February 1st) in San Francisco at the 111 Minna Gallery will be a new showing from David Choong Lee. We last witnessed a large body of work (covered) from the SF-based artist back in 2010 in Los Angeles, and in comparison, this new exhibition Organic Updates will also feature more clusters and wall installations created with elements of graffiti, collage, and painting. Preview: Adam Friedman – “Space and Time, and Other Mysterious Aggregations” @ Eleanor Harwood Gallery

With the opening set for January 25th at the Eleanor Harwood Gallery, the time is right to preview Adam Friedman’s newest body of work. Space and Time, and Other Mysterious Aggregations will feature the Portland-based artist’s signature surreal geologic forms, created through the process and painting and mixed media work. Preview: Jay Howell – “Enthusiastic Person” @ FFDG (SF)

On February 1st, Jay Howell will be presenting all new works at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery (FFDG), his third solo with the SF showspace. Entitled Enthusiastic Person, the 25 mixed media cartoon-styled works on paper will featuring renderings of the case of characters from his new animated children’s show Sanjay and Craig set to premiere sometime this year on Nickelodeon. If you didnt’ know, the talented LA-based artist is also behind the design of the main characters on Fox’s hit show, Bob’s Burgers. Discuss this show here.

Openings: “Supersonic Electric Invitational 2” @ Spoke Art

Last Thursday evening, Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco hosted the opening of the 2nd Annual Supersonic Electric Invitational to a packed house with many of the 32 artists in attendance. The show is curated by Zach Tutor, who founded and runs the Tumblr-based contemporary art blog Supersonic Electronic, by choosing some of his favorite artists who he felt are innovative, dynamic and compelling. One of the first shows of the new year will be the 2nd Supersonic Electric Invitational held at the Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco. Jonathan Darby – “Congo” @ White Walls

British artist Jonathan Darby recently transformed San Francisco’s White Walls gallery to give the feel of the war torn city of Goma, which is located in the Congo with the population of around a million people. The installation consists of paintings, sounds, photography and film that spotlight the conditions the children of the area live in. Basel Week Miami ’12 / Preview: Scott Scheidly @ SCOPE / Spoke Art

Like the ArtPadSF in San Francisco earlier this year (covered), Scott Scheidly will be showing more works from his series of unusual portraits – this time at the SCOPE art fair in Miami (part of Basel Week Miami). The Orlando-based Schneidly will be one of the featured artists at the Spoke Art booth (along with Jessica Hess), so head over if you are in town to check out his tyrants, dictators, and other pop culture icons re-imagined in a different context. Openings: AJ Fosik – “Lamplighter to the Promised Land” @ Guerrero Gallery

Last weekend, AM stopped by San Francisco’s Guerrero Gallery to check out opening of Lamplighter to the Promised Land that features AJ Fosik’s latest wooden sculptures. We visited Fosik a few weeks back at his Portland studio while he was preparing for the show (which can be viewed here). With this exhibition, he created sculptures to portray creatures in a glorified manner that challenges the concept of belief as a virtue – in other words, they are trippy/bad-ass beasts.
