AJ Fosik’s sculptural artworks almost need no introduction. In a world where it is increasingly difficult to have a true individual voice as an artist, Fosik’s work has an original aesthetic honed over the years from his roots in graffiti, street art and two-dimensional drawing. Marking the third time (also see 2010) they have had a group show tribute to director Wes Anderson, Spoke Art in San Francisco opened their doors last week to fans of art and film buffs alike. Coinciding annually with Halloween, the opening reception slash costume party featured references to Mr. Anderson’s cult movies so we are sure Bill Murray-inspired pieces and costumes were a hit. It’s time to update you on something that German duo Herakut have been working on recently – The Giant Storybook Project. Acting on their long-time desires to create a children’s book, Jasmin (interviewed) and Falk have taken to the streets around the world to paint the “pages” of their story. Murals of Lily, Jay, two giants, and their adventures have already hit the walls in Kentucky, Germany, Montreal, Toronto, Rochester, and San Francisco. Last week, Brett Amory’s latest effort, Twenty-Four in San Francisco, was put on display at Sandra Lee Gallery located in San Francisco’s Union Square (see the studio preview here). The show contained 24 paintings, each capturing a moment from a different location from a different hour of the day. Various objects found on the ground at each site was displayed throughout the space. Openings: COPE2 – “The Rebirth” @ Project One

Last week, Bronx artist COPE2 treked across the nation for a solo exhibition at San Francisco’s Project One. Entitled The Rebirth, COPE brought the indoor game as he created works incorporating his renowned bubble throw ups and his wildstyle compositions. Great to see the Bay area get to experience the works from one of the key writers of the iconic early subway scene of NYC. Discuss COPE2 here.

On a recent visit to the Bay Area, AM got to visit the Oakland studio of artist Brett Amory just as he was in full scale preparations for his upcoming exhibition Twenty-Four In San Francisco. San Francisco-based artist Ryan De La Hoz brings a hometown show to Four Barrel in SF this week in the shape of Welcome To Your Doom. We like the title of the show, as De La Hoz has used it as a slogan before for a T-Shirt under his Cool Try clothing label. One such shirt proudly hangs in our wardrobe. Eric Shaw & Henry Gunderson – “Glint” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

The other weekend, Fecal Face Dot Gallery hosted the opening of a joint exhibition with local artist, Henry Gunderson (directly below) and Brooklyn-based Eric Shaw (above). The two artists’ work complimented the other nicely when displayed in the same venue. Each artist has their own style and take on using geometrical shapes and colors, creating images that were surreal and thought-provoking. Check out photos from the opening below.
