Openings: Jessica Hess – “Fade and Finish” @ Spoke Art

Last Friday evening, Spoke Art hosted Jessica Hess’s latest exhibition, Fade and Finish. With this body of work, she explored using gouache on paper (as opposed to predominately oil on canvas paintings in previous exhibitions) and depicted urban landscapes in both daylight and moonlight. In this show, she also explored realistically depicting texture that is inspired by wheat pastes in New York, as well as pinup images that grew out of her love of vintage radio and movies. Openings: Evah Fan – “What Have You” @ Park Life

Last Friday evening, Park Life in San Francisco presented Evah Fan’s latest colorful, mysterious and minimalistic artworks (previewed). For this show, she veered slightly away from her usually microscopic gouache paintings and incorporated blocks of colors and figures to depict what might happen in everyday indoor scenarios from the point of view of a person peering through a window. Releases: Tiffany Bozic – “Drawn By Instinct” Monograph

It’s been a while (2010) since we met up with gifted painter Tiffany Bozic, but now comes news that a book she has been working on is finally ready. Drawn By Instinct, produced by Gingko Press, includes over 150 color illustrations in its 192 pages featuring her beautiful renderings of the natural world. To kick things off for the release, she will be giving a talk at the SF Public Library on Tuesday (September 4th) at 6:00pm. Via Upper Playground. Discuss Tiffany Bozic here.

Openings: Andrew Schoultz @ Park Life

Saturday evening, Park Life hosted an exhibition and book signing of Andrew Schoultz’s book, Up in the Air (previewed). The show featured an array of original and editioned works, as well as an installation that expanded one of his larger paintings onto the gallery wall. Be quick to check out these kinetic paintings from this bay area artist, as it is set to close Wednesday for the preparation of the gallery’s next exhibition featuring Evah Fan. Upcoming: Evah Fan – “What Have You” @ Park Life

This Friday, August 31st, following on the heels of the Andrew Schoultz showing, Evah Fan will be opening a new show at Park Life in San Francisco. The Bay Area-based artist will be presenting a selection of gouache paintings entitled What Have You featuring her colorful and often minimalistic imagery. Look for an increase in her usual size of works as well as the incorporation of collaged elements in this new body of work.
