Streets: Jen Stark – “Chromatic Cascade” (Los Angeles)

It looks like Jen Stark recently completed a mural in the downtown LA arts district (1828 Conway Pl. Los Angeles, CA 90065), her largest to date. Entitled Chromatic Cascade, the impressive piece spans two walls on the facade of a building and measures 27 x 200 ft. Featuring bold colors and intricate patterning, the wall painting is a classic example of Stark’s psychedelic drippy imagery, one of the reoccurring motifs in her work. Discuss Jen Stark here.

Streets: Invader (Hong Kong)

Invader recently completed his 7th “invasion” wave of Hong Kong with the placement of 32 of his signature tile-based work in and around Habour City (known for their support of artists). Situated next to the stunning views of Victoria Harbor and looking across to the iconic skyline of Hong Kong Island, the largest shopping and dining destination in HK is now even more a must-visit with the announcement that they would preserve all the space invaders that the French street artist has installed on their walls. Take […]

Streets: Elian Chali (Cologne)

Elian Chali recently took part in the Cityleaks / TRANSURBAN festival in Cologne, Germany, curated by Georg Barrinhaus. For this event, he created one of his vibrant, abstract, and minimalist public interventions titled Against Overlapping. Working on a residential building in Müllheim, the Argentinian artist took the strong cultural characteristics of neighborhood and created a piece that searches for harmony. With a simple composition and his color choices, Chali escaped forcing the observer into an interpretation, but instead just served up visual elements for numerous possibilities. Unpretentious yet highly […]

Streets: Banksy – Basquiat Tribute Pieces (London)

With the imminent opening of the first large-scale exhibition in the UK of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat scheduled for the 21st, a couple Banksy pieces have shown up near the venue overnight. On his Instagram account, Banksy noted the irony of the Barbican, “a place that is normally very keen to clean any graffiti from its walls”, hosting the work of the legendary graffiti artist. The main piece, what we like to call “SAMO Stop & Search” if you will, has been done with stencil spraypaint, freehand spraypaint and oil […]

Streets: JR Installation @ US-Mexico Border Fence (Part 1)

Recently in Tecate, at the US-Mexico border fence, JR (interviewed) has installed a provocative new project featuring a Mexican boy peering over the barrier. Best viewed from the US side, the new work towering over 70 feet utilizes the scaffolding technique he introduced at the recent Olympics in Brazil (covered) and deals wth a topic the French photograffeur often touches on – immigrants and refugees. He states – “People will always migrate. When we built walls, people built tunnels. When we closed places, they went by the water. The […]

Streets: Bezt (Poland)

After many international projects and murals, Bezt from Etam Cru recently got a chance to paint a mural in his homeland. The result is this peaceful yet intriguing piece titled Blue Monday in Bielsko Biała, in the south of Poland. Choosing a very limited color palette, mostly consisting of different shades of blues and purples, the Polish artist painted this four story tall image of a woman carrying a lush flower pot for the “oBBraz miasta # 4” project organized by the Bielska Gallery Foundation and Bielsko BWA Gallery. […]

Streets: Upfest 2017 (Bristol)

Last weekend saw 250 artists and an estimated 40,000 members of the public descend on Bristol’s Southville and Bedminster neighborhoods for Upfest. The event has grown into the largest annual painting festival in Europe since its inception in 2008 and this year’s installment included large-scale murals by Kobra, Eelus and Jody Thomas. Will Barras and Xenz collaborated on a new wall which is teeming with detail that draws the eye in and holds the viewer’s attention; utopian landscapes and opalescent butterflies are intertwined with timeless cosmonauts and […]

Streets: Sebas Velasco x Iñigo Sesma, Bol (Croatia)

Spanish artists Sebas Velasco & Iñigo Sesma, recently took part in the refreshing Graffiti Na Gradele festival on the scenic island of Brac in Croaita. The two San Sebastian-based friends and studio mates painted a new collaborative piece titled Yugoslav riviera at the children park on the edge of the local harbor. Though fine art painters rather than street artists, Velasco and Sesma enjoy working in the urban environment and translating their painterly approach on a bigger scale in public. Coming without any preparation or sketches, […]

Streets: World Roundup (July 2017)

With the beginning of August upon us, It’s time to take a look back at some murals that caught our eye last month in this edition of Streets World Roundup, mostly painted in July. First up is this amazing makeover of a 19th century castle in the Loire Valley of central France by Okuda featuring his colorful and prismatic style (photo edited from ChopemDown Films). Entitled Skull in the Mirror, this project (part of the recent Label Valette Festival) by the Spanish artist is not the first time […]
