Festival Iminente (previewed) opened recently and will bring two days of art and music to London’s Brick Lane. The festival serves as both a celebration of Portuguese and pan-European culture and a warning of what may be lost as a result of the UK’s exit from the European Union. Last month, the 2017 edition of North West Walls (see 2016) wrapped up with new work from this year’s roster. Hoxxoh, Phlegm, Astro, Telmo Miel, Emmanuel Jarus, and Smates were invited in to painted stacked containers, a unique backdrop of the yearly summer rock festival in Belgium, Rock Werchter. Just this weekend, Printed Matters, a show from Shepard Fairey (featured) opened at Underdogs in Lisbon, a gallery co-founded by the locally-based Vhils (interviewed). Their collaboration didn’t end there as the American and Portuguese street artists combined their artistic vision for a joint mural featuring Shep’s iconic imagery and Vhils unique mark-making. Not long after closing his successful solo show in Paris (covered), and prior to starting working on upcoming solo shows in Asia and US, Belin had the opportunity to paint a new mural in Torredonjimeno, near his hometown of Linares in Andalucia, Spain. Last month in Italy, street art savant Blu made one of his increasingly rare appearances and painted an impressive new mural for the Draw The Line Festival. Recently in Stockholm, Os Gemeos finished a mural on Fiskargatan 9 on the side of a multistory building featuring their distinctive imagery. Organized by All You See Is Crime In The City and supported by Highlights Store, Montana Colors official distributor in Sweden, the piece depicts a few of the Brazilian duo’s yellow-skinned characters. Streets: Telmo Miel – “Trollstigen” (Norway)

Recently in Gol, Norway, a new mural was painted by Telmo Miel entitled appropriately entitled Trollstigen. The Dutch duo explain – “They come in all shapes and sizes. Trolls, Beings from Norse mythology and Scandinavian folklore. Till this day they’re still being hunted by tourists, trying to get a glimpse of one of these creatures.” Discuss Telmo Miel here.

Recap: POW! WOW! DC 2017

The Washington D.C. edition of POW! WOW! recently returned in 2017 with another 15 artists creating murals in the NoMa district. Local artists CHELOVE, JD Deardourff, Jordann Wine, Julia Chon, Key Han, Martin Swift, Mas Paz, and Matt Corrado joined artists traveling from afar – Kaplan Bunce (Hawaii), Madsteez (California), STASH (Brooklyn) – seen above, TRAV (California), It’s a Living (Mexico), Muro (Spain), and Qbic (Russia) in painting walls in the neighborhood at a number of locations such as the Metropolitan Branch Trail and the new AVA apartment building at 55 M Street NE. Painting through Mother’s Day weekend, Aryz recently finished a new mural in Saarbrücken, Germany. Painted for the people behind Artwalk – Saarbrücken, the new piece from the Spanish artist featured some tiles that are a small reference to his mother’s work. Take a look at more in-progress photos below that document him creating yet another memorable wall with his signature pastel still-life imagery, this time with a little different twist.
