Streets: Herbert Baglione for Djerbahood (Tunisia)

Another artist that was invited to Djerba in Tunisia for the Djerbahood Project organized by Galerie Itinerrance was Brazilian artist Herbert Baglione. The streets of the picturesque village of Erriadh felt like a perfect setting for his ongoing 1000 Shadows project, so the artist painted several new pieces around the town. Like many other artists participating in the project, Baglione involved existing architectural elements into his work, but he pushed that concept even further. Bom.K was recently invited to Djerba in Tunisia, to take part in the big Djerbahood Project organized by Galerie Itinerrance in Paris. The French graffiti artist, one of the key members of Da Mental Vaporz crew, who’s been showing his works recently in galleries throughout Europe and USA, created couple of different street works for this open space museum. Streets: ROA (Sweden)

Last week, ROA was caught on the move again, this time popping up in Bromölla, Sweden where he painted a mural for Ifö Center as part of their Artist-in-Residence program. The project originated in the unoccupied floors of a factory with Belgium-based street painter being the first international artist to leave his mark on the external walls. Because the area is known for its prehistoric fossil finds, ROA decided to paint the skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus, a fitting piece in his oeuvre of creature dissections. Photo credit: Henrik Haven. Leading things off on this edition of our Streets: World Roundup is this new mural from Vhils (via Hookedblog) for the Phytology Project. The wall is situated on a side street just off Bethnal Green Road (the station end) in the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve and is part of a series of year-long artist commissions taking place in the reserve. Phlegm was recently invited to Norway by Urban Samtidskunst and Galleri Lauritzen to paint a large mural in the old industrial town of Moss. After being forced to take some time off due to neck problems, the Sheffield-based artist created a groundbreaking piece on many levels. The mural was painted on this massive 25x35m wall of an old paper factory that was shut two years ago. It doesn’t happen often that Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) grabs a spray can, but when he does, he usually creates something exceptional. After not painting walls for quite some time, his newest mural, which he recently finished in Los Angeles, is definitely an example of that. As is often the case with public murals when released into the streets, local writers will add their own “opinions” directly onto the works. This is what happened almost immediately to the Jeff Soto (interviewed) wall that was painted in South Central last week (covered) as you can see above. For those in Chicago to enjoy Lollapalooza and The Provocateurs opening tonight, make sure you also find time this weekend to take a look at the street art associated with the group exhibition. We already touched on the curator of the show Shepard Fairey and his new mural at Columbia College, but another artist’s work to check out is Los Angeles-based writer RETNA’s (featured) piece at 33 E. With The Provocateurs set to open tomorrow (July 31st) at Block 37 in Chicago, some of the street artists involved have been hard at work getting up around town, not the least of which was Shepard Fairey, who curated the massive group exhibition. LUDO (interviewed) is currently back home in Paris, spending long days creating new works for his upcoming London solo show at his studio, and pasting up public works on early weekend mornings. Over the past weekend, he created this double billboard piece on the streets of the French capital, taking up the advertising space while propagating his imagery.
