Mobstr (interviewed), who recently put on a show in London (covered), just completed a project he had been working on for over a year. Starting in May of last year, he had been counting the days a particular piece of graffiti lasted on a wall in Hackney Wick along the edge of a river, adding hashmarks for each passing day. Dream Catcher is the newest mural created by Polish art duo Etam Cru. Both members, Sainer and Bezt, painted this large piece in Lubin, for the LFG: ALL MY CITY ’14, organised by the Europejska Fundacja Kultury Miejskiej and Brain Damage Gallery. Created over the course of 5 days, the image shows a dog wrapping up his owner with a leash, in an attempt to catch an imaginary bone. Last week, Riverside native Jeff Soto (interviewed) headed to Los Angeles to paint a mural (invited by Juxtapoz) for Converse and their Wall to Wall program. Set in South Central L.A. on Slauson Avenue where some of his ancestors originally settled, Soto decided to do something as a tribute to them. Austrian street artist Nychos recently painted a new mural for the Livin’ Streets Festival (curated by INOPERAbLE) in his hometown of Graz. Bringing Puff, the Magic Dragon to life on the side of a tall building, The Weird crew member made sure to add his dissected touch to the beast. Other artists who were invited include Jaz, Ever, Evoca1, Axel Void, Frau Isa, Stinkfish, Livil, David Leitner, Street Art Communication, Searok, Costwo, and Alexis Diaz. A review of recent public works for our Streets World Roundup sees this new mural (seen above) from Shok-1 as one of the standouts. Entitled The Consumer, the new piece makes a clever modification in the Pac-Man imagery that we are used to and again highlights the sublime translucent x-ray spraycan technique from the London-based artist. A couple days ago, DALeast sent over images of a new mural he painted for the Street Art Doping Project in Warsaw, Poland. Entitled Dormant Antennae, the striking new mural featuring a falcon perching on a cobra that was painted to channel up to an antennae on the roof. AM recently had the pleasure of staying at The Line Hotel in Los Angeles, a project put together by the good people behind the Ace Hotel among others. Along with the work of D*Face gracing the west side of the property, the locally-based Shepard Fairey (featured) was asked to create a large mural overlooking the main entrance of the hotel. The time had come for another Streets World Roundup here on AM. Leading things off is a complex new work of art from Felice Varini in Hasselt, Belgium for the “De Unie Hasselt-Genk” exhibition. The spiral-like piece which plays with perspective was painted on the roofs and facades of 99 buildings and can only be properly seen from one vantage point. Take a look at more here. Only a couple days before the opening of his first museum show, Dissection, Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils finished this large outdoor piece in front of the Museu da Electricdade where the show will be held. As the last in a series of large works he created through the city, the final 360 degrees piece Panorama on the round water tank is one of his most elaborate ones yet. By transferring his scratched paper collage technique onto this large building, Vhils surely lifted up the quality of his work to another level. […]
