After sharing with you what Phlegm painted for Cities of Hope in Manchester, we now have photos from what the other artists contributed to the unique event. Hyuro, Pichiavo, Martin Whatson, C215, Faith47, Nevercrew, Axel Void, and Case also chose a local charity to link up with that battles with social issues while painting a mural to support the cause. Previews: Josh Keyes – “Overgrown” @ Archimedes Gallery

On Saturday night (June 25th), Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be opening a joint show with Eva Funderburgh entitled Overgrown at Archimedes Gallery in Cannon Beach. For fans of his work, the title immediately makes sense and the first few paintings that have been revealed certainly play on this theme. Also, starting at 10 am for those present at the gallery only, Keyes will make two new prints available – Return & L’apres-midi d’un faune (Afternoon of a Faun) – more details here. Openings: Futura – “NEW HORIZONS” @ Library Street Collective

Last weekend, Library Street Collective in Detroit hosting the opening for Futura latest solo show entitled NEW HORIZONS. Along with all new paintings that features some of the graffiti legend’s signature abstract color studies with gyroscopic structures as well as his old school pointman characters, new large-scale pieces were prepared for the outdoor space in BELT Alley for the PUBLIC MATTER series of works. Previews: Evah Fan – “Weird View, Weird Few” @ Land Gallery

On June 24th, Land Gallery in Portland will be opening a new show entitled Weird View, Weird Few from Evah Fan. The Oakland based illustrator and artist’s gouache paintings often feature her eclectic cast of human and animal characters in unusual configurations, position, and situations, all rendered in her flat, multicolored style. The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo of Málaga recently opened Miss Van‘s first show at a museum. On 21st of June, the Barcelona-based artist introduced El Viento en Mi Pelo (For The Wind in My Hair), a show overviewing the last three years of her career. Next door to the main hall of Art Basel (covered – part 1, part 2), the Unlimited section was reserved for mostly large site specific installations. Curated by New York-based curator Gianni Jetzer, the idea for this platform was to go beyond the traditional fair booth limitations and allow exhibitors to present large size sculptures, paintings, videos, installations and performances. The twelfth edition of the Volta Fair in Basel returned to its dome home at Markthalle. As one of the satellite events to the main Art Basel expo (covered – part 1, part 2), the fair featured a selection of galleries and artists that included 68 exhibitors from 20 countries worldwide. The London edition of the Affordable Art Fair is a twice-yearly event alternating between both sides of the River Thames. From 16–19 June, it was held in Hampstead Heath with over 100 galleries exhibiting works priced between £100 and £5,000. Moving closer to its big brother, the Scope Art Show is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in Basel at a new location three blocks away from the main fair (covered – part 1, part 2). Last month, nine artist headed to Manchester in the UK to participate in Cities of Hope, a project put together by Vestige, a not for profit social justice organization that uses the arts to inspire action on the social issues.
