Recap: FIAC 2014

Right on the heels of Frieze Art Fair in London comes the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain or FIAC. Held at Paris’ Grand Palais, the event saw 185 galleries from 26 countries present their rosters to French art fans between October 23-26. At the end of last month, the Library Street Collective hosted the opening of Dave Kinsey’s (featured) new show entitled Cushion of Memory. Moving somewhat away from the distorted human faces and forms as well as his signature palette anchored in reds, the artist based in the mountains north of Los Angeles has created a triumphant new body of works. Laboratório de Actividades Criativas in Lagos, Portgual, is currently has an group exhibition on view which resulted after their ARTURb 2014 project. Besides a group exhibition featuring a great list of artists, a DJ set by Talib Kweli, and a chance to benefit the Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services, attendees may also want to attend the Branded Arts extravaganza tonight at TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood because of a print release from SABER (interviewed). Entitled City Of Lights, the 36″ x 16″ regular edition based on the original painting, which will also be exhibited, will have a run of 24. Streets: Vhils (Poland)

Once again employing methods unique to him in street art game, Vhils (filmed) recently finished this piece for the Urban Forms Gallery public works series in Lodz, Poland. Featuring some of the foliage that has been seen recently in his urban portraiture, the chiseled wall leaves a lasting mark on the city that won’t be soon forgotten. On view through tomorrow in Hong Kong at the local Gagosian in Central is Sterling Ruby’s show VIVIDS, his first with the gallery. The new series of works created with spray paint with a vibrant red and pink palette was inspired by the beautiful sunrises and sunsets he sees in Los Angeles. Recap: MyFinBec Pop Up Show (Berlin)

After their inaugural show at their winery in Sion, Switzerland, the MyFinBec project (introduced) toured around Europe showing the commissioned artworks at pop up shows in Cologne, London, Rome, and now has finally reached Berlin. Featuring eight original artworks, small scale murals painted on 672 wood wine cases in total, by the likes of Vhils, Herakut, C215, and Etam Cru, these unique events were a perfect mixture of art and wine tasting.
