Previews: Naoto Hattori – “Nothing But Perception” @ Dorothy Circus Gallery

On April 12th, Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome will be hosting a new solo show from Naoto Hattori. Nothing But Perception will be the second exhibition with the gallery and will feature 11 brand new artworks from the Japanese artist. Rendered beautifully in amazing detail, the surreal portraits and psychedelic imagery is sure to delight Hattori’s fans in Italy. Discuss Naoto Hattori here.

Coming up on May 17th, a group show curated by Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace will open in Berlin as part of Project M/4 (also see M/3) with Urban Nation. American artist Mark Jenkins opened his second solo with Ruttkowski;68 gallery in Cologne on Friday night. Titled Terrible Horrible, the show featured a number of new tape sculptures as well as a couple of clever canvas interventions. On Friday, 4th of April, Wunderkammern Gallery in Rome opened the first Italian solo show by Aakash Nihalani. Famous for his street installations and works that play with geometry, perspective and optical illusion, the NYC-based artist created a whole new body of work for this show. Openings: Jeremy Fish – “Hunting Trophies” @ Mark Moore Gallery

Last night, Hunting Trophies opened at the Mark Moore Gallery, Jeremy Fish’s (featured) second solo with the Culver City space. Continue using custom shapes as his painting surface as well as elaborate frames with carvings, the pieces have a finished look about them and with the impeccable linework, appear almost produced in a factory. Berkeley-based painter & illustrator, Deth P. Sun, is set to open a show soon at the Leeds College of Art in the UK. Judging from the preview images here, the new body of work will include his signature whimsical cat-like character, rendered in various stages of its adventures. On April 11th, the Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia will be opening a three person show starring Barry McGee, Dan Murphy (part of Steve Powers’ ICY Signs), and Isaac T. Lin (DFW zines). Entitled Department of Neighborhood Services, the exhibition will reunite the three friends who all have an interest in graffiti and all who have shown together before. Coming up on April 11th, the Brooklyn Museum will be presenting a new large-scale installation from Swoon (interviewed), whom we just visited in studio earlier this year. Entitled Submerged Motherlands, the epic site-specific creation will be housed in the Iris and B.
